Location: Vintner Hall
Date: month 13, day 8 of Turn 4
Jadorin cautiously entered the Tavern, wondering whether he should
take a seat at the bar or at one of the tables. This was only his
second time there, but the first time alone, and he was feeling a bit
out of place. However, he was in the mood for a light lunch and
perhaps a beer, and the Tavern was a convenient place to go.
"Well, hello Weaver Jadorin!" A familiar and warm voice greeted the
young man. "I didn't expect to see you here." Zathris came to a stop
just behind the chair opposite of Jadorin and gave the other man a
broad, bright smile. "How do you fare?"
"Assistant Steward Zathris," Jadorin said, returning the smile. "I'd
only been to the Tavern once before and thought coming back would be
nice. It seems to be a pleasant place to take a break from work.
Sometimes I need to clear my mind for a bit and get out of the
workshop."
"That I can understand. May I?" At the affirmative response, Zathris
pulled out the chair and lowered himself into it. He leaned back in
the chair, offering another smile to the weaver "How are things going
with you these days?"
"Busy," Jadorin said with a smile, "but that's a good thing. Do you
generally have more or less work in the warmer months?"
"More, because the ovines are being brought in to shear and various
other things occur. Then, of course, we have Turn's end and the
celebrations that come along with it." Zathris chuckled. It did
create a lot of work, but he wasn't really going to complain. "What
about you? You seemed to be quite busy when I put in my request."
"Yes, and that has to do with Turn's End as well. Many people need,
or want, new clothes. What's being planned at the Hold?" Jadorin had
not been at Amber Hills yet for the previous Turn's End celebrations.
"Oh various things. Food's being picked out, harpers preparing songs
that will be performed. We'll be having dancing and of course mounds
of food." Zathris chuckled. Some of the best food came out during
gathers and other celebrations. "Are you planning to attend any
festivities?"
"I'm sure I will. Turns End is a wonderful time," when everyone
forgot about their worries for a few days.
"Yes, I agree with you." Turns End seem to be the favourite time for
a lot of people, him and his wife included. It was the reminder of
another turn coming to close and a new one opening. It was a time for
first steps and fresh starts. "Just try not to drink too much." He
stated with a chuckle.
"I doubt there's much danger of that happening." Jadorin was far too
reserved to let himself drink too much. He didn't want to say
anything he would regret. "Are you allowed to relax for at least part
of the celebration, or are you needed to supervise?"
"I'll be able to relax some, yes." Zathris nodded slowly. As far as
he knew, he wasn't called to take any official part of the
celebrations. That could change at any moment, however. He certainly
hoped to be able to spend his time with his wife. "Benani's really
looking forward to it. Anything in particular you plan on doing
yourself?"
Jadorin shrugged. "I haven't thought about it much. I'm sure I'll
spend some time with other weavers." He might ask Lymria if she was
free as well. "Is the Tavern having a separate celebration?"
"As far as I know the Tavern and Vintner Hall will be having joint
celebrations." At least, that's what Zathris assumed when Zandreu had
been working on various specifics. He had also heard that the
Hallmaster was sick. "I might pop in at the Hall."
"If anyone knows how to throw a celebration, it's the vintners."
Jadorin drank a bit of the beer he had ordered. He didn't know much
about the subtleties of brewed drinks, but in his opinion this one was
very good. "Will the Hold be getting some wine or beer from the
Hall?"
"Oh yes, that can be assured." Zathris chuckled, "Though we might
have some vintage from the North, I would be surprised if most of the
selection wasn't from our own Hall."
"That's a nice advantage of the Hall being so close."
"Yes indeed." Zathris had to admit he had certainly taken advantage
of the closeness as well. Benani had enjoyed the perk on more than
one occasion with him. "Well, wherever we celebrate, I'm sure it will
be fun. Another turn gone, another one beginning, a chance for new
things."
"That sounds like the chorus to a harper song," Jadorin said with a
smile, before drinking some more beer.
"Maybe I should have become a harper." Zathris stated with good
humour, then mimicked Jadorin by drinking some of his own ale.
"Though I'd probably make a pretty poor one. I don't think I can keep
a tune to save my life."
Jadorin shook his head, smiling. "I'm not much better. Good thing we
found other occupations."
"Yes, a very good thing indeed!"
