Date: month 13, day 10 of Turn 4
"Do you think he's changed his mind?" Sorsha asked Railen as they waited on the porch with their belongings. Both moons were up now, it was long past sunset, and yet I'lan hadn't returned for them.
"If he did, then we have other options." To be honest, Railen would have preferred to have J'far take them, but Sorsha had explained at how insistent I'lan had been. Railen had a feeling the bronzerider hadn't completely given up on Sorsha and he was feeling a bit overprotective of her. Of course, at the same time, he didn't wish to offend the man.
Sorsha nodded and looked out towards the darkened courtyard. Everything was in shadow as most of the building's glows had been covered by this point and people were turning in for the night. "If I'lan comes, we need to find J'far and Lenlee and let them know we're there."
"Well, I sent a message at the hold" Railen had made the trip for naught it seemed. "And then another one was sent letting him know that we'll get a ride from someone else." That message had been taken by another young man, giving Railen freedom to prepare to leave.
"We'll probably beat both messages," Sorsha said with a weak smile. She still wasn't sure going to the Weyr was the best thing to do, but things were in motion now. "If he comes."
And that was the time that the light from both moons was temporarily blocked out with a dragon shaped silhouette. No welcoming bellow came from Naath, I'lan had impressed on him the need for quiet so as not to disturb the Hold at this time. As the bronze landed, I'lan slipped down easily and waved in greeting.
"Hello I'lan." Sorsha gave the bronzerider a smile before picking up her bag and taking Railen's outstretched hand. "Thanks for coming for us."
"It was the least I could do, the sooner you are in the barracks, the sooner you can get back into the routine of classes."
Railen had a feeling it was more than simply that, but he kept his mouth shut. Instead, he gently squeezed Sorsha's hand. "Well, either way, it is appreciated." He cast a glance toward the large bronze. He was a beautiful creature, indeed. "Shall we go?"
"You have all your things?" asked I'lan.
Sorsha nodded as she let go of Railen to climb up on Naath. "Railen's family is coming to the hatching with my father. They're bringing the rest of our belongings just in case."
Railen waited until Sorsha was settled before he, too, climbed up and sat behind her. "How do I secure the straps?"
"There's a loop here," I'lan lifted his own and demonstrated. "Undo this, and pass it around your belt, then do the same with the other side."
"Ah, I see." Railen deftly secured the strap, evidently catching on quickly once he see how it was supposed to go. He made certain that Sorsha was secure as well, then encircled her waist with his arms and leaned forward to whisper into her ear. "Ready when you are."
"I know you've been adragonback before Sorsha, so you know what to expect about the trip /between/. Railen, if you haven't been before, all you need to know is that it will be very cold, and darker than anything you have ever experienced before, but it will only be for a very short space of time." Whilst I'lan was talking, Naath was gathering himself to take to the air. "Ready?"
"I've been before." Railen assured him. After all, he was wearing his heaviest coat in preparation, though it seemed that even ten layers would not be enough to ward off such cold. "I'm ready. Sorsha?"
Sorsha grabbed ahold of I'lan's flight jacket, trying to keep a bit of space between them for Railen's comfort. "I'm ready to go too." To their new home. Where they'd spend at least the next four turns, if not the rest of their lives.
