Barthella smiled as she approached Nimroy in the courtyard. It hadn't been as difficult as she'd thought to track the man down. "Good morning Nimroy. Do you have a moment?"
"For a beautiful lady, always," he answered with a big smile for the cook.
"I heard tell that you're going to be heading down to the coast in the coming days?" She didn't know if the plans were still in affect, what with the hold leadership in flux.
"You heard correctly then," he said, motioning her toward a stone bench. He felt a bit guilty, but he was quite looking forward to the relatively short trip to solidify a few trade agreements. It would be rather nice to get some distance from the tension following his father's death. He had missed travel these past months and though he felt some trepidation about leaving his son, he knew that Nandrie and Benani would provide excellent care during his absence.
Barthella sat at one end, and watched while Nimroy took the other. They didn't know each other well, but she liked of him what she'd seen so far, as well as what others had told her. "I need to travel down to Caraphy on a Tavern matter and could use an escort. Zandreau insisted upon it in fact. Would you be amenable to some company?"
"I most definitely would," Nimroy smiled again. "I would welcome it, in fact. My plan is to leave day after tomorrow, since there is Threadfall tomorrow."
The cook nodded, glad they'd be able to travel straight through and not hole up in some runner station during Threadfall. As much as the stations were necessary, they were quite lacking in all the hospitality that a tavern like her's had. "Are you planning on staying long? My business will probably only take a day, two at most."
"I was planning on a fairly short trek myself, two days in Caraphy should be plenty of time. This is the first time I have ventured away from the Hold since Ailnim was born, so though I am rather anxious to travel I have a feeling I will be even more anxious to return."
She'd known he had a child, as well as a dead wife, but hadn't ever thought of what his exact situation was. "Do you have a fostermother for him, or do you care for him yourself?"
"His wet nurse cares for him a good deal of the time, but I have been spending more and more time with him as he's gotten older. Once he is weaned, my sister Benani has kindly offered to care for him when I cannot."
"It's good that you have family to help you." Barthella replied, "You won't feel so guilty when you're away with them around."
"True enough," Nimroy nodded with Barthella's assessment. "I really love to travel and I would hate to give it up so I am more than pleased with the arrangement. I expect I will be more happy to return than I ever have before. Ailnim seems to be growing and learning something new every day. Still, if I am honest, I have to admit I have missed the opportunity to travel. Have you been to many different places?"
Barthella gave a sly grin as she looked down at the fold of her skirt. "Here and there.. Actually, I've been over a good part of the South over the last twenty turns or so. It happens when you work in Taverns, and when you follow sweet talking men."
Nimroy chuckled. "Sweet talking men, huh? Somehow I just don't see you falling for silver tongued flattery or pretty harper words, but I will definitely hone up on my skills for our voyage," he teased.
"Be careful you don't take on more than you can handle," she wagged her finger at him as she stood up to leave. She had much to do at the Tavern, and a trip to plan for now as well. "I can be quite the handfull."
"I will take your advice then and be very careful," he answered, rising as well, "We'll see you day after tomorrow."
