Description: Almonteo and Corowal have decided on a little experiment to see how a move would be received.
Location: Emerald Falls Hold
Date: month 1, day 25 of Turn 5

Almonteo

"All right so that is the original piece that I have composed for your wedding," the Hallmaster said, putting his flute back into his case. "Now, let's talk about other music to entertain your guests. I actually have a suggestion, though I'm not sure how all your guests will receive it."

"It's lovely. What suggestion?" Corowal asked.

"Well, as you know one of our biggest questions about moving my Hall back to your Hold is how our females will be accepted." It was perhaps the main issue that could make or break the deal. "Why don't we do a little experiment? Let's feature a few all female ensembles. We would not make a big deal of it, just have them be part of the evening as well as male ensembles and mixed groups. There will be enough security that their safety would be assured, but more importantly, we can gauge their reaction."

Corowal threw back his head and laughed. "Ooh, I love that idea!"

"It will certainly raise a few eyebrows," the Hallmaster smiled, hoping that the Lord Holder's people will accept the idea with as much glee as he.

"At least it will be a wedding to remember," Corowal was still grinning. "Oh, and I found this from our stores," he said and pulled out small painting. "The harper hall as it was about fifty turns ago, based on the date backside."

"Well, now, isn't that beautiful," the Hallmaster murmured, taking the painting in hand and appreciating the fine details. It was obviously Harper drawn. "That is going to take a long time to rebuild. Which reminds me. You asked me last time we met if there were any additions we might be interested in making to the Hall. There is one I would request. As you know, the Harper Hall is not one Hall, but actually two since the Printers joined us after their homes were destroyed in the hurricane. I think they would need some sort of facility of their own, attached to, but separate from the Harper Hall. What do you think? Is it possible?"

"Probably," Corowal said, trying to remember the map of the area. "You just have to displace some ovines and herdbeasts," he continued.

"Better than more people," Almonteo said thoughtfully. "Do you think it would be possible to put temporary housing there while they build the main Harper Hall?"

"Sure, that can be arranged. There is already some cots there that can be used. They are not big enough for, like choir practice or for classrooms but they are suitable for living quarters. There are also few abandoned holds, but they are farther away. Still they could be used on temporary basis," Corowal suggested.

"I suppose those would be the same buildings that housed the Hall after the fire. I think that would do. If we could build a temporary wooden structure that could be used for practices closer to the Hold, that should hold us over." As long as they could have a separate building for printers so that their machines did not interrupt the musicians. "Perhaps what we can do is build the Hall one wing at a time. When one wing is completed we can move in while they begin construction on the next."¨

"Sounds logical. There's plenty of timbre available in Emerald Falls hold. The building stone is another matter."

"We can make do in wooden structures, especially if there's the promise of a Hall of our own. If this is something that we can finalize soon I'm sure a fair amount of stone can be delivered before many quaries are snowbound." And the soon they had this officially settled the better.

"The closest quarries are at the Crimson Hills hold. They be delighted if you buy their stone. As for the wooden structures, something like that can be built rather quickly. I wouldn't want to live in one during the the Thread Fall though," Corowal said.

"Would you have room in your Hold to shelter us during Threadfall until the first wing of the Hall can be built?" Perhaps they could ease the Holder's tensions by offering some entertainment during the long candlemarks bound in doors.

"It will be tight, but I think we can manage that. After all, the Fall doesn't last whole day," Corowal said.

"Well, those buildings you mentioned that are already standing should be Threadfall ready, so it wouldn't be the whole Hall." If they could entertain as many guests as the Lord Holder was expecting for their wedding, they should be able to house the number they'd need to send. "How soon do you think you could start construction on a temporary wooden structure?"

"As soon as I can get the necessary work force and the crafters gathered up. The hold has few woodcrafters and masons, but not enough for large project like this," Corowal replied. "Much depends how fast I can hire additional workers."

"Of course I would be more than happy to use what influence I can." The Hall was not without contacts in all corner of the Southern Continent.

"I would appreciate it," Corowal said. Who knows, some of those additional workers might even stay on Emerald Falls hold permanently after the building project was over.

"If the concert is received favourably, how long, do you think, before we can make a formal announcement?" Nothing could really begin until that one formality was finished.

"Is month too much or too little?" Corowal wasn't sure what all went with such a move. It was bit thing, really, and almost unheard of. Halls didn't generally move around.

"I think the sooner the better. It will take a few months for our Hall to prepare just as it will take time for you to begin building. I think just as when we moved, we will take advantage of the Weyr's kindness and ask for help transporting essential personnel and equipment, but use boats transport the majority of the Hall."

Corowal nodded. "It's a long way."

"We've done it before."

"Then you have the practice already," Corowal commented.

Almonteo nodded thoughtfully. "And here's to hoping that it will be our last."
