Description: Jadorin shows Zathris the wallhanging he's finished.
Location: Amber Hills Hold
Date: month 1, day 23 of Turn 5
Jadorin knocked on the Assistant Steward's door, the finished wall
hanging held carefully in his arms and wrapped with plain cloth as
protection. He had finished it two days before and was proud of his
work. He hoped Zathris would think the same.
"Come in." Zathris called out and looked up as the door opened. A
smile broke upon his face and he nodded politely as the weaver
entered. "Good morning Jadorin, what can I do for you?"
"The wall hanging for your wife is finished," he said, returning the
man's smile. "Do you want me to put it on the desk so you can see it?
Or," he eyed hides on the desk, "I can just hold it up."
"Yes, hold it up, please!" Zathris stood up as if thinking that might
give him a better view. "I'm rather eager to see it!"
The weaver carefully pulled away the wrapping and stood back, holding
his work up so Zathris could see it. He tried to remain calm, but
this was always a tense moment. Even though Zathris had liked his
sketches, that did not mean he would love the finished project.
The wall hanging depicted the main Hold and garden in summer, with
many shades of green for the trees and plants and a calm blue for the
sky. Above the hold flew two firelizards and in the foreground were
two felines.
"Very nice!" Zathris nodded and came around from behind his desk so
that he could inspect the work more closely. "Very nice indeed.
She'll love it, I'm certain. You've done a wonderful job, Jadorin."
Jadorin smiled at the praise. Moments like these were some of the
best in his craft. "It was a pleasure to work on," he said sincerely.
"Please, how much do I owe you?" The price had been discussed, but
nothing was set in stone. Zathris knew that sometimes things took
longer than originally planned and he wanted to be sure that Jadorin
was paid for all his time and effort.
"The amount we discussed," the weaver said evenly. There had,
fortunately, been no unforeseen circumstances. He had finished with
time to spare.
"I must say, I feel like I'm almost robbing you." Zathris took the
hanging from Jadorin as he made his way around to his desk. "It's
truly a wonderful piece."
Jadorin smiled widely. "I loved making it," he said honestly. "If
you or your wife ever want another..."
"You will be the first person I will call." Zathris stated eagerly.
"I haven't the money with me, but I can send it to you before the day
is over. You can pass the tapestry over to the deliverer if you don't
mind taking it back with you."
"All right." At least the weather was nice so there was no chance of
his candlemarks of work being ruined. "I'll look forward to hearing
what your wife thinks of it."
"I can guarantee she'll be delighted with it!" Zathris grinned. "And
don't be surprised if she starts telling others all about you and you
suddenly get swamped with commissions."
Jadorin returned the smile. "I wouldn't mind being swamped,
especially to make more wall hangings." He already spent much of his
free time working anyway.
Zathris' grin widened. "Especially to make things you love to make?
I'll be sure to send the marks to you today. I do hope you'll forgive
me, I have some duties I must attend to before this day is over for
me."
The weaver nodded and stepped towards the door, the wall hanging held
carefully in his arms. "I'll let you get back to work. See you
soon." He felt he should offer condolences for the Lord Holder's
death, but did not want to end the conversation on a sad note. At
least, that was the excuse he let himself believe.
