Description: Daigoro has news for Key in his search for a wife for the journeyman
Location: Vintner Hall
Date: month 2, day 25 of Turn 5
"Good news! Great news! Come on and have a drink with me," the
Hallsecond said, putting an arm around the journeyman's shoulders and
leading him towards a stool at the bar. "What will you have?"
"I'll take a glass of white," Key replied.
Daigoro relayed their orders to the woman behind the bar. "A glass of
white for my friend and a mug of whatever's closest for me." He
motioned to his companion to sit and then took the stool next to him.
"So, I have news."
"What news?" Keayd asked. The young journeyman was naturally curious.
"I received a letter from my cousin. He lives is a small cothold up in
the mountains. A pretty far off place." He nodded to the young woman
who set two glasses in front of them. "He said he knows a young woman,
about sixteen, whose father is trying to find her a suitable husband,
with no luck so far. He says she pretty and well mannered. She just
needs a good man who can take care of her."
Keayd just stared the hallsecond speeshlessly. To be honest, he had
pretty much forgotten his offer and hadn't expected this.
The Hallsecond waited for a reaction. Any reaction. "Oh come on, Key,"
he said, giving him a big grin and bumping his shoulder with his own.
"They want to come to the Hall and meet you! This is a good thing, eh?"
"Yes, yes, it is," Key hurried to say. "Of course it is. I'm just... I
didn't excpect...not so soon."
"Well, they want to come meet you! That's a big step, eh? Come on, we
should have a toast or something," the Hallsecond said enthusiastically
raising his glass. "What shall we toast to?"
"For high hopes?" Keayd suggested. Although inside he was still
sceptical and far from convinced that it would work out. But he didn't
want to offend the Hallsecond and he had done a great deal of work for
it.
"To high hopes," Daigoro agreed. He clinked his glass with the
reluctant journeyman's before taking sip. "All right," his tounge
darted out to lick the white foam from his lips. "So, her name is
Ankia. They live across the Sea of Azov, but on the northern side of
the Eastern Range. So they'll be taking a boat across the Sea and
travel up the river. Sooner is better than later, taking the harvest
into consideration. They should be here in month 3, so that will give
you time to prepare yourself."
"That's really far off," Keayd said. **Time... enough to bolt.**
"It is," Daigoro agreed thoughtfully. It seemed his friend was anxious.
And why wouldn't he be? "Would you rather I make arrangements for them
to by dragonback?"
"Me? Lowly journeyman? I have no such contacts with dragonrider, I'm
afraid," Key said. He might have sold a bottle or two to a dragonman
some time, that was all. As far as he knew, none of his relatives had
ever Searched or Impressed.
"Yes, but I'm a Hallsecond. I _do_ have contacts. And just think how
impressive it would be if you sent a _dragon_ to pick them up!"
Key tried not to choke on his wine. "That would be..", he swallowed
nervously **...too soon!**
"Just say the word, Key," the Hallsecond assured him.
"Umh, Okay. You're being way too generous," he replied. Inside Key was
thinking about which mess he had landed himself in.
"Was that okay, as in you would like me to bring her adragonback?"
Daigoro asked to clarify.
"Yes," Keayd replied. What else he could say and not offend him?
"All right, then," the Hallsecond grinned, giving his shoulder a
friendly slap. Of course Key would be anxious to meet his new bride!
"I will send them a little and tell them to wait for a dragon. That
will certainly impress her father! I bet they've never even seen a
dragon up close before."
"Impress them it will, for sure," Keayd grunted.
"How much time do you think you'll need to be ready?" After all,
Daigoro could imagine he might want to get a hair cut, perhaps even find
a new shirt for the occassion.
"I don't know, a sevenday?" Key said with a unsure sigh.
"A sevenday it is!" the Hallmaster agreed. "Another toast then! To you
and your future bride!"
Keayd lifted his glass to meet the toast without a comment.
