Description: D'wrayt chats with E'naer over the midday meal about the weyrlings.
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 3, day 3 of Turn 5
D'wrayt hadn't checked up on his youngest daughter in awhile. He was
trying to give her space and time to adjust to life as a weyrling not
to mention he had a lot to do even though he was simply a wingrider.
He was looking for a spot to enjoy the midday meal at and saw the
Weyrlingmaster Third. Before he could help himself, he found himself
seated across from the older greenrider.
"Good day, E'naer. How are you today?" he asked as he helped himself
to a glass of fruit juice.
"G'day, D'wrayt. I'm fine, how about you?" E'naer replied and nodded
at the bronzerider.
"Settling in back to rank's all right?"
"I'm good. It's a lot tougher than I thought it would be to adjust."
he admitted taking a sip of his juice. He wondered if it was this hard
for all of the former Weyrleaders, he'd have to ask the next time he
saw one of them.
E'naer could imagine it would be and nodded symphatically. "So, do you
have any plans for what are you going to do now?" he asked.
"Not really. I'd like to check up on the weyrlings every now and then,
but I haven't thought much about what I'm doing other than trying not
to _be_ the Weyrleader. I had finally gotten used to the idea of
_being_ the Weyrleader. Now I have to get used to not being one. How
are the weyrlings by the way?"
"The usual. Most are fine and couple of them are giving me a
headaches. We are missing a Weyrlingmaster though. Have you given any
thought about returning to that position?" E'naer replied asked.
"I've thought about it, but haven't talked it over with the Weyrleader
yet. Let me guess, it's the bronzeriders who are giving you trouble?"
E'naer nodded. "Some of them have hard time taking orders from a
greenrider."
"They'll learn soon enough that it's not the color of the dragon that
matters. It's the person and their rank that matters. How's my girl
doing? I've seen how big that green of hers is getting." he asked
finally getting around to his questions.
"She is doing just fine. What else would you expect, she is your
daugher, she was born to it," E'naer replied with a smile.
"I knew she would, but she always dreamed of being a harper. I've
heard it can be hard to suddenly have your plans shifted by the
impression of a dragon. I had always wanted to be a dragonrider and I
was comforted by the fact that I could at least talk to them if I
didn't Impress. That was a challenge as a child to get used to having
all these voices in your head." D'wrayt said smiling in return. He was
glad to hear that she was allright.
"She can still be harper," E'naer said. "I can just imagine. Sometimes
it's a challenge to have just one dragon in your head," he continued
but smile was a fond one.
"That she can if she chooses to. My gift is advantageous now that I am
older. Makes it very useful in coordinating Threadfall or drills. How
is your Eillispeth faring?" he always liked to inquire about the
dragons as well as their riders as one's health sometimes affected the
other.
"She's fine. Happily mothering the young ones," E'naer replied.
"That's good to hear. Listening to the dragonets is always an
interesting experience. Some of the questions they ask amaze me and
others make me laugh. They used to ask Treadoryth some of the
strangest questions."
"I think they still do. Eillispeth doesn't always tell me what she's
been talking with the dragonets. But I get a glimse now and then."
"Sometimes you don't want to know. Have a great rest of the day,
E'naer. My bronze is calling for me to attend to his itchy hide."
D'wrayt replied unable to ignore the bronze's complaints any longer.
The dragon sounded like a weyrling with his constant reminding of his
itchy spots.
"See you around, D'wrayt," E'near waived at the bronzerider, "Don't
let him wait."
