Getting all of Briata's things out of the Lord Holder's apartments had been something else. Shaking her head, Parale was glad she'd managed. As it was, the Lady Holder had taken some of it with her adragonback, but there were still some carisaks and trunks left.
Frowning, Parale had thought about what she might do. She couldn't enlist the aid of the boys, since she didn't want them to be able to answer if anyone asked questions. If Lord Ishek found out about her involvement in this, it would be on her head alone.
Walking through her quarters, she put a hand to her lips. "What can I do?"
And then it came to her. Briata had left her with some marks. She could use those to bribe the trader handling the supply train that would go to the Weyr. How to get the stuff to the train without gaining notice, though?
"The Weyr..the Weyr...the...Riedel!" Jumping up, she grinned. She had a second cousin twice removed who lived at the Weyr. She could simply say the things were for her. They were female trunks, after all. Then, a quick message to Briata to tell her to be looking for the things, and it should be fine. Her mind made up, she set to work making the arrangement with the trader.
"Mam, you got something to go?" Fritik asked, as he supervised the loading of the wagons.
Parale nodded at the pile of things at her feet. "Aye Fritik, for the Weyr." Making sure he was watching, she lifted up three marks for payment.
One brow rose, then he nodded and took the marks. "Any special instructions?" Three marks-didn't ask anymore questions after that.
"Aye-a woman, Riedel, will claim them. Be very careful, some things are quite fragile." Parale didn't want Briata's things arriving broken or messed up. She'd packed them as best she could.
"Aye mam. We'll get them loaded up as soon as possible." Fritik nodded and started speaking with the loaders about being careful and making sure that luggage was placed well.
Watching the men, she offered a few instructions, making sure everything was loaded correctly. Nodding her approval, she thanked Fritik.
"Just doing our job, mam," the Trader replied, thankful for the marks.
Parale then hurried away, careful lest someone see her and wonder what she was doing talking to the trader. Later, she sent a message to Briata letting her know she should call herself Riedel when she claimed the luggage.
