Comes before °Future Together," the wedding post.
Cloud sat in Jadorin's lap, purring contentedly as he pet her. He knew
Lymria had seen the feline in his workroom but they hadn't discussed the
fact that both he and Cloud would be moving in with her after their marriage.
Of course, Tini would be too, but the firelizard didn't take up as much room
as the feline, and Cloud seemed to shed constantly. He hoped that
wouldn't be a strain on the marriage. The relationship already had more
than its fair share of pressure.
He forced his thoughts back to the present, and the blank hide in front of
him. He had procrastinated long enough and now, the day before his
wedding, he could not put it off any longer.
Putting pen to paper, he began writing a letter to his parents, his neat script
belying the jumble of emotions he had been experiencing for sevendays.
[Dear Mother and Father,
I apologize for not writing for several months. I have been very busy with
a number of commissions. I also have important news to tell you.
Tomorrow I will be getting married. Her name is Lymria. She is a
wonderful woman and I'm sure you love her from the moment you meet
her.
The situation is a bit complicated. She has two fosterlings and a young
son from a previous marriage. And, although we have not told anyone
else, she is now pregnant with my child. Don't blame her for any of this.
I am to blame. And, please keep the news to yourself for now.
We won't be able to visit until after she gives birth, but I promise you will
be able to meet everyone in a few months. I know this all must come as a
shock for you, but I hope you will accept Lymria and her children into our
family.
I hope everything is going well there. Please give my regards to everyone.
Jadorin]
Reading over the final draft, he wondered if he was being too apologetic, or
if he should break the news more gently. But, in the end he decided to
send the letter without any changes. Tini was always happy to deliver a
message to his parents because she knew she would be fed plenty as well
as given a lot of attention. In fact, he only trusted her to send messages to
them. Whenever he tried to send the green anywhere else she either
became confused and refused to budge or disappeared /between/ and
ended up at his parents' anyway.
As he awaited their reply Jadorin gently moved Cloud from his lap and
checked his closet for his wedding garment. It was hanging on a hook,
ready for the following day. He wondered if he should have taken the
time to make a new suit but the one he already had would do, and there
had been little time to prepare for this. The advantage of a rushed
wedding was that there was little time to do much of anything.
The day she had told him of the pregnancy, when they had decided to get
married, he had gone to his room, sat down on the bed, and thought for
almost a candlemark. Once he had convinced himself that this _was_ the
best decision and that he _could_ do this, albeit after freaking out for a
few minutes, he hadn't let himself rethink the decision. As far as he was
concerned, from that moment, his future was set in stone.
He and Lymria had spent some time together over the past few sevendays
but he still felt like he hardly knew her, and was definitely not comfortable
yet with her children. The youngest would be the easiest, but Torgny
would probably take some time to adjust. Jadorin himself did not know
how long it would be before he would feel at home in his new life, or would
even feel like he was in reality, rather than some strange dream. Maybe
some day he would even look forward to going home from the workshop
to be with his family. Maybe. At least, he hoped so.
