To Have Such Problems

Writers: Cali, Emma
Date Posted: 22nd September 2009

Characters: Nytha, L'bar
Description: Nytha talks to Labarr about the next hatching.
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 4, day 20 of Turn 5

Nytha dropped into the seat in the dining cavern next to Labarr. "How's
things?"

"Wonderful. Same as always." Labarr said lightly as he looked over the
greenrider. "And how's my favorite perfectionist?"

"Spent my afternoon checking over a set of straps, I thought that one of the joins was fraying a little."

"Oh to have such problems." He lamented playfully. Labarr had been a
candidate alongside Nytha, and while she had impressed that beautiful dark
green of hers, he'd been left on the sands again and again, just like
always. He never held it against his friends that made it though, they were right for their dragons and his just hadn't been hatched yet. There would be another clutch soon, and this one would have his lifemate in it. He was sure.

"You will soon enough, I know it. There'll be a hatchling just crying out
for you this time."

"I know it too." Labarr agreed, "Then we'll be flying circles around you
and Tagerth."

"Only if she'll let you," teased Nytha. "She can be very determined."

Labarr chuckled since Nytha could have been talking about herself rather
than her dragon, "Maybe, we'll have to see, won't we?"

"Depends what colour you end up with." Although she strongly suspected that
with having had a bluerider as a weyrmate it was more than obvious.

He shrugged and stated with a tone dripping with indifference, "I haven't
decided yet, I may leave it up to chance." Then he grinned and added
mischievously, "I'd look good on a bronze though don't you think?"

"Or a brown," she teased.

"A brown would definitely outfly Tagerth." Labarr pointed out. "Of course,
then maybe I'd finally get you into bed."

"You'll just have to wait and see what happens," she teased.

Labarr raised his mug in toast then took a long drink. "I really do have a
good feeling about this one. New blood and all."

"It does look like there could be a good clutch this time. Maybe you dragon
will be shelled soon."

He laughed, "It had better be soon, or I'll be an old man and no dragon will want me."

"Old man?" she teased. "Maybe the dragons won't let you get old."

"Is there a secret I don't know about?" Labarr raised a brow and grinned.
"Do dragons imbue eternal youth? If so, I want one now even more. I'll
forever be able to attract all the new curious blue and green riders if I
can always look this good."

"Well, you've seen those bronzeriders, they just don't seem to get old,
maybe there's hope for you yet!"

Labarr let his mind wander as he pictured the handsome and very unattainable bronzeriders that dotted the Weyr's lineup, then brought his attention back to Nytha across from him. "Just promise me that if I don't impress, you'll give me one good roll before I get old and fat."

"Maybe one day I'll hold you to that, unless of course you do Impress."

She was such a tease, he knew she had no intention of ever sleeping with
him, but he didn't mind. It was good to have unattainable goals in life, it kept one on their toes. "In which case I'll win you fair and square."

"You never know," said Nytha with a grin. "Unless of course, said ever
youthful bronzerider gets there first ..."
