A New Perspective

Characters: Az'uka
Description: Az'uka moves to Dragonsfall Weyr
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr, Elsewhere on Pern
Date: month 8, day 21 of Turn 3

Morning was never a favorite part of Az'uka's day, but after becoming a dragonrider 14 turns ago he learned that getting up early in the morning wasn't all _that_ bad. It seemed that today had come too soon and at the same time, didn't seem like it could have come soon enough. He was changing Weyrs today and both the excited-ness and nervousness of such a move had taken over him. He'd spent most of his waking candlemarks over the last few days just trying to think of everything that needed to be done. Despite planning ahead, everything seemed to fall back to the last minute again.

The sun had barely reached its Zenith as the two of them where _still_ getting ready, well more precisely the one of them. Az'uka was stuffing things into his bag, mainly the things that mattered. He looked up briefly and caught his dragon taking a nap. **You going to help lazy bones?** He taunted }:I'm ready, you're the one taking forever:{ came the dragon's reply.

**Ready? I think not, we haven't bathed you yet**

The dragon looked over his shoulder and into the weyr at his rider. His eyes twirling, }: Again? { came the exasperated question. }: That's twice :{
** Not really you had one yesterday** Az'uka replied, something about this whole move had him worried, perhaps the only good thing his father had taught him was that first impressions counted, and this was going to be a major first impression. He stood and eyed his dragon, they where already running short on time and he wouldn't have the time he needed to bathe his dragon and all his feet of Twilight blue hide.

**Come to think of it I don't think I have the time** Nilzuth gave a soft coon in reply and returned to watching out over the Weyr bowl. His rider stuffed the last object of relative importance into his bag, and then turned to descend the steps from his weyr. He made his regards and farewells to the Weyr Leaders of Far Island Weyr.

Shortly after he was mounted on Nilzuth and the two of them went /between/.

~*~

Sure traveling /between/ only took the same amount of time it took a man to cough three times, but the chill of it always seemed to last longer. Getting used to that and no longer feeling it was part of Az'uka's life now. He rolled his shoulders a little, feeling the air around them, and then just looked down at the surrounding grounds.

The outlining image of the cliffs surrounding the Weyr had been clear in his head. Looking at them now they seemed more real than ever before, as if the where standing there and he was no longer dreaming about them. He blinked a little in the light; he'd never seen the Weyr like this, it was strange how thinking of the Weyr as home changed his perception of it. The expanse of Dragonsfall Weyr stretched beneath the pair of them.

**Home.** He told Nilzuth as the blue dragon bellowed a welcome to the Watch Rider.

}: Well, are we going to hang up here all day? :{ The blue dragon taunted his rider.

**No, we best find where we belong** with that the pair of them, dragon and rider began their decent to the Weyr bowl. The lazy circling of Nilzuth was deliberately slow. **Are you doing this on purpose?**

}: Some of those greens are watching :{ He replied in a manner that was so manner of fact that it caused his rider to chuckle.

**Shards, you plan to make an impression already?
** Az'uka teased, and gave his dragon a pat as the pair of them finally landed. He untied his bags and undid the riding straps; he shouldn't need them for the rest of the day as far as he knew. Giving Nilzuth a playful slap on the shoulder he let the dragon find his way to a nearby ridge top, where he nested himself between two green dragons.

Az'uka made his way across the Weyr bowl the occasional Weyr Resident giving him a smile and waved as he was appointed to his new weyr. It didn't take him as long as he though it might have to find the location of his new weyr. Climbing the many steps to his weyr it was no different form the several hundred he climbed every day for the last 14 turns of his life at Far Island Weyr, in fact he thought he counted a few extra. He dumped his stuff rather untidily on the bed and stepped up to the opening over the Weyr.

"I could get used to this"

His words floated on the soft breeze blowing though the Weyr, so this was his new home.
