Characters: Carlan, Parale
Description: Parale checks with Carlan to see how her charges are progressing in lessons.
Location: Garnet Valley Hold
Date: month 6, day 14 of Turn 5

Taking her time as she made her way through the corridor, the fostermother stopped from time to time to share news with other holders. She was on a mission, though not a very important one. When she finally came close to the harper's demesne, she stopped to straighten her clothing. That done, she walked inside and looked around, hoping to catch the journeyman before midday meal. "Hello..anyone?"

"Come in." A hide was neatly placed to one side as the Journeyman noted the mark for the assignment.

Parale entered and spotted the harper. "Journeyman, do you have a moment? I was hoping to have a chat." She glanced around, noting the bright pictures adorning the space.

"I have time," Carlan waved her to a seat. "What would you like to talk about?"

She adjusted her skirts and sat. "Well I was wondering how my little darlings have been doing in lessons. I know some of them can be a handful at times." Parale hoped she could have good reports to send to the Lord Warder.

"I see," the Harper reached into his desk for his notes. "Behaviour wise they're lively, no more than some of the other children though."

"And their marks?" Parale really hoped that she wouldn't have to turn half harper.

"Here we go," he turned the hide so Parale could see as well. "Delimar is keeping up, he's a smart kid and could be top of the class if he tried."

"Really?" Her tone was softened as she looked. "His father will be pleased no doubt. And Galecia?"

"I was going to make an appointment to talk to you about her, she's falling a little behind and I'm starting to worry."

Frowning, she sighed when her suspicions were confirmed. "What's the problem? Reading, maths, or something else?"

"She doesn't seem to be paying attention. I'm getting the impression that it is one of two things, either she hasn't understood something and doesn't want to say, so she's playing up to get us to notice. Or she's bored and wants to go at a faster pace. I'd need to spend some time with her alone rather than the rest of the class to see which it is. You of course, would be welcome to sit in."

"Oh sure." Parale nodded in eagerness, thankful that the harper seemed to have everything in hand.

"Anything else you need to know?"

She frowned and thought about that. "Not at the moment I suppose. I guess just decide when we can talk to Galecia."

"Sometime in the next sevenday?" suggested the harper.

"The third day, Journeyman?" Parale had washing duty on the first day and planned to do mending on the second.

"Sounds good to me, I'm free the candlemark after the midday meal."

"Very well. Thank you for your time." She stood up and gave him a smile before turning to go. "You have a good day."
