Awkward Meeting

Writers: Cali, Paula
Date Posted: 29th December 2009

Characters: Aileyan, Trellyn
Description: Aileyan asks the wrong person about Ednan.
Location: Dolphin Hall
Date: month 6, day 7 of Turn 5

Aileyan thought she had now given enough time for Ednan to wallow in misery (hopefully) and now was time to talk things through. She had grown bit concerned when Brun, Ednan's flit, had stopped appearing with messages she refused to read. (She did give the firelizard a scratch and meat treat though). So, she had came to Dolphin Hall to meet him. But he was nowhere to found. Those people she met and asked about him, just shrugged and shook their head. So she ended up wandering around aimlessly. Someone here had to know Ednan and where he was! She ended up to the docks and saw familiar figure to rise up from water. Female figure. It took her a moment to realize why she was familiar. It was the woman Ednan had run after. She stiffened and her first reaction was to turn around and leave. But what good would that do? It wasn't her fault that Ednan hadn't mentioned her.

"Can I help you?" Trellyn asked as she saw the dragonrider approach. They seemed to be everywhere now, even when she left the Weyr docks for a bit of a languishing swim back at the quieter Hall they appeared. Still, the girl must be there for some reason and she might as well direct her.

"Well, that depends, do you happen to know where journeyman Ednan had disappeared into?" Aileyan asked with dry tone.

Trellyn recognized the girl now. The one Ednan had been with. She grabbed at the towel on the dock and busied herself with drying off as she composed herself. "He's not here anymore. He took a journeyman position somewhere I heard."

"Oh," was only thing the petite greenrider could say. Maybe it had been in one of those letters she didn't read.

"I don't know where." Trellyn added. She'd decided against holding resentment towards the girl after she'd had time to process the situation. After all, dragonriders weren't monogomous by nature, her stay at the Weyr had confirmed it to her, so she couldn't really blame a person who didn't know any better. Ednan though, he knew better, she thought they'd committed themselves to eachother. He deserved all the blame.
Aileyan looked the dolphineer. She was older than she was, and taller, with lovely reddish-brown hair. Aileyan fingered her own, dark brown braid and tried to figure out something to say. If only Ednan had told about her! Aileyan wouldn't had any problems then. Sharing a man wouldn't be problem, no, it was the lying.

"If it's important," Trellyn said when the girl didn't turn to leave, "You could inquire with the Hallsecond or Hallmaster. They would know where he was posted." The thought of the greenrider flying off to Ednan's arms brought a knot to her stomach and she hated Ednan all the more for it. She needed to stop thinking about him as hers, she needed to stop wanting him.

"Well," Aileyan said, hesitant to bother such important persons. "I guess it's not that important after all." she made a little resigned sigh.

Trellyn wanted to tell the girl to snap out of it. If Ednan had cared about her, then he would have let her know where he was going, he had a firelizard after all... one that Trellyn had given him. The arse had used them both and Trellyn seemed to be the only one that realized it. "Is there anything else you need?" she was able to keep her voice calm, even.

"No, thanks for your help," the greenrider replied, although what she really wanted was ask how she had ended up involved with Ednan and what their relationship had really been.
Trellyn nodded. This was quite the awkward meeting. "If you'll excuse me then, I'd best be off."

"Of course, me too," Aileyan said and sighed. Since she couldn't work up the courage to ask, it would forever remain mystery. Perhaps it was best that way, knowing the truth might hurt even more. The dolphineer seemed like a nice person. She gave one last smile and turned to return to her lifemate.
