Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 7, day 24 of Turn 5
The clasp of her bracelet had broken and Briata examined it. The piece of jewelry had been a gift from her father on her fifeenth birthday. One of the loops that held the clasp to the bracelet itself, a string of silver flowers, had broken. It was fixable, but not by her. Briata was going to have to take it to a smith, probably. The girl sighed and set it down on the table. Classes were done, but she had stayed behind to work on an assignment. The clink of metal had turned her attention away from the loom and to the bracelet she had worn. The girl put it aside and looked back at the womb. She wanted to do a couple of more lengths and then she'd go see someone about fixing it.
Hope had been sleeping in the room. It was usually quiet. She looked down from her perch to spy something shiny. She liked shiny. She queitly alighted on the table and looked closer at it. Suddenly she couldn't help herself and she snatched it up and flicked between.
Nocte was cleaning out Hope's hidden corner. She laughed at the things she found in there. Suddenly the naughty little flit appeared with a new shiny. Nocte sighed. "Hope, that's not nice. I don't mind you hiding my shiny things but that belongs to someone else. come on. Lets go return it." She sighed as she quickly removed the shiny object from her flits care. "show me where you found this."
When the firelizard led her back to the room, it was empty save for a few small looms and a young woman. That woman had left the loom, finished with what she wanted to do and was searching underneath the loom upon which she had been working. Where had the bracelet gone?
Nocte shook her head and glanced at her flit. "Excuse me? I think I may have what you are looking for"
Briata straightened and turned toward the voice. When she saw what the other woman held out her eyes brightened. "Oh! Thank you!" She accepted the bracelet, then frowned. "But how did you get it?"
"My naughty little flit thought it her job to make off with it." She held it out to drop it into Briata's hand.
"I see!" Briata relaxed into a smile as she curled her hand around the silver. "I'm glad you were able to find it and get it back. This was a gift - I would have hated to lose it."
Nocte smiled. "She has a corner she likes to keep all her collected things. I was cleaning it out when she turned up with a new pretty to add to her horde."
"Well, I'm sorry I don't have something you can keep." Briata reached out to caress the little green's eyeridges. Jewel, curled around her mistress' neck, opened one eye, then closed it with a sniff. "Maybe you'll find something better, hm?"
"She'll manage. She usual collects only my stuff. " Nocte chuckled. "Sorry she made off with it. I'm Nocte and this is Hope."
"Well, I have it back, that's what matters. It's so pretty she probably couldn't resist." Briata nodded politely to the girl as she gave her name. "I'm Briata." She offered, then touched the the little gold. "This is Jewel. Well met to both of you."
"Well, I'm glad I was able to return it. I'd hate for anyone to lose anything so lovely." She gave a smile. "You may want to take it in to be repaired though. Wouldn't do to lose it again. If you need a ride anywhere. Just ask for me and I will gladly take you."
"Thank you, you are very kind." Of course, B'lamick would give her a ride anywhere too, but she wouldn't undermine the offer by mentioning it. "I hope you'll forgive me, I must go meet someone, but again, thank you for bringing it back." Briata carefully wrapped the bracelet in a hankerchief and tucked it in her pouch. With a smile and a wave, she turned and left, skirts rustling around her feet. The greenrider was nice. People at the Weyr, in general, were nice. She was glad the rider had been honest as well.
