Almonteo

Almonteo

The harper hall's location was now a site full of activity. Men were
tearing down the last remains of the old, burned down hall, while others
made measurements and hammered down poles to mark the places where the
new hall's walls would one day be.

"It is going to be much bigger," Corowal noted to his guests and pointed
the corner-markers.

"It's going to be marvelous," the Hallmaster grinned.

"Aye," Corowal agreed. "Who wants the honour for digging the first
shovel for the ground works?"

"I think perhaps that it should go to the Hallmaster himself," suggested
Thanja. After all, she was a printer by craft.

Corowal nodded in agreement and looked at Almonteo.

"Bring me a shovel, then," Almonteo grinned, not at all opposed to the
honor. After all, it was not every day a new Hall was built!

Corowal gesture to one of the men, who brought a showel. On in it's
handle was harper-blue ribbon tied to a neat bow. The Lord holder
thought it amusing gesture and had hard time not laughing out loud.

The Hallmaster could see the mirthful twinkle in the Lord Holder's eye
as he looked at the gaudy decoration. "Could be worse," he said quietly
for Corowal and Thanja's ears only. "The Harper Hall's colors could be
pink."

Thanja smiled, stifling the laugh that threatened to escape, "Well maybe
you should gently undo it then, a souvenir for you."

"After someone put in so much effort of tying it on there? I don't want
to ruin relations so quickly," the Hallmaster chuckled. "Would you like
to say a few words, Lord Corowal? Or should I just put this pretty
shovel to work?"

"Well, you know, I can never refuse a public show," Corowal grinned.

"Would you like to hold the shovel?" Almonteo asked, casting his
Hallsecond a little wink.

"How could I resist an offer like that?" Thanja held out her hand.

Corowal waited until the audience had gather around them and gave the
little speech he had written before hand. It was quite nice, full of new
beginnings and new oppurtunities. He gestured towards the Hallmaster.
"Now Master Almonteo has the honour of starting the construction work for
the new hall!"

"Thank you, Lord Corowal," the Hallmaster said with an elegant bow.
"And now if my lovely and talented Hallsecond would relinquish the
shovel, which we all agreed was quite remarkable..."

"All yours," she said, handing the item back.

"Thank you," the Hallmaster said with a smile and a wink to his Second.
"Well, then, let us begin this new era of friendship and cooperation."
Almonteo wondered if he had ever handled a shovel in his life as he
looked down at the dirt that had thankfully been softened in
anticipation of his lack of experience. "The pointed in goes in first,
right?" he whispered softly to the Lord Holder, his eyes full of humor.

"Yes," The Lord Holder's eyes were laughing while he managed to keep his
expression deadpan. "Don't strain your back."

"No, we wouldn't want that to happen," Thanja supressed a grin, aware
that people had gather to watch. "Maybe you should put that shovel to the
use it was intended for?"

"I just hope I don't hit a rock," the Hallmaster muttered through broad
grin plastered to his face. With a wish for luck he plunged the end
into the softened dirt, and to a crowd full of cheers lifted a decent,
but by no standards heaping, shovel full of dirt which he gently dumped
to the side. "Let the building begin!"

Corowal applauded, along with the audience.
"Shall we return to the hold? My wife is waiting for us with a feast,"
he asked, offering Thanja his arm.

"Of course milord," replied the Hallsecond as she took Corowal's arm. "We
couldn't have a better start this."
