Not bothering to knock, Kenza burst into U'kaiah's office. "What kind of
a fool are you, U'kaiah?" She stated exasperated. "First, the girl in
the infirmary, and now Aileyan? Do you _want_ people to think all that
matters to you is what's under your belt?" Kenza had marched straight up
to him and was now staring him down. "Look, as your friend, I'm telling
you that people are talking, and it's not good talk. You better watch your
back!"
He hated looking up at her even more than her lectures. It made him
feel that much more the scolded child. "If you're going to sit, then
sit already. Otherwise I don't want to hear it."
Kenza shook her head, but she sat. "Got anything good to drink around
here?" She asked, before turning back to her purpose for coming here.
"You're being a fool U'kaiah. Everyone knows you've a way with women,
but this time it's different. People are talking about your abilities to
_lead_. They've confused your antics between the furs with your ability
to fly the skies." Kenza paused and then added. "Now where's my drink? You know
you're supposed to serve your guests when they come to visit." Her eyes
twinkled with a amusement at that last comment.
"I honestly don't know what you might be referring to," U'kaiah said,
pushing his chair back so he could reach the cupboard where he kept his
stash. "It's no secret I've slept with several women I've had in my
Wing. Some of them with quite a bit of regularity, and some since I we
were weyrlings. I don't see any difference."
Kenza just chuckled, "You know me, U'kaiah, I don't mind how many women
you take to your bed. Your reputation proceeds you." She laughed. "But,
for whatever reason there is something different in the air now. Perhaps it
was the goldflight that changed things. I do not know. I just caution
you to be on your guard a bit more."
"I think it's the fact that I haven't slept with the new Weyrwoman yet
that has tongues waging." That and a lot of men whose advances Aileyan
spurned want to have a reason to complain about the fact without
sounding like it's their own sharding pride they are concerned with. He
wished they would leave the poor greenrider alone. She just wasn't the
kind of girl to fall into bed with any man who begs her. U'kaiah rather
liked that she was hard to impress.
Kenza snorted a little laugh. "You're probably right, U'kaiah. You _do_
have a reputation to uphold." She laughed and a twinkle of mirth was
hidden behind her often shadowed eyes. "I'm sure you'll rectify that situation
soon enough," she shook her head with a bit of a smile teasing her lips.
She knew his ways and it didn't bother her. For this was the Weyr after all.
Kenza had had her fair share of lovers over the years. Kenza herself had
enjoyed the ways of the Weyr as a younger girl and Solith still enjoyed
a variety of partners. But when it came to choices, Kenza was not one to
fall into bed with any old rider, not matter his looks. What were looks anyway?
That thought always made her laugh inside.
"Well, just make sure you prove to those naysayers soon enough that
you've still got whatever it is they are blabbing on about. Don't want
the wing to suffer simply on account of misconceptions! Have any plans for the
wing that we haven't discussed?" Kenza shifted the topic easily enough. She
was committed to her job and always wanted to to lead the wing to the best
of her abilities and to push the others to give their best as well, for
their best was what it took to keep Thread from destroying their world.
"Yes, I plan on replacing my Wingthird with Aileyan since, you know, I'm
sleeping with her and all. I'm sure you understand." Though his face
was serious, his eyes twinkled with amusement.
"You wouldn't dare," she said, with an almost playful glare in his
direction. It wasn't her tone, but her eyes that gave away the fact that
she enjoyed this playful banter. "I could smack your behind just like I
would have done when you toddled around her in diapers! Don't put it past me!"
She quipped. "Besides, you wouldn't know how to run your wing without my
amazing assistance and you know it." Kenza didn't brag often, but she _was_
proud of her duties and she knew that U'kaiah was one who understood her and her
words. "To boot, you'd be too distracted fighting thread with a pretty
face at your side. At least mine keeps you focused on your job." She chuckled
slightly and took and lifting her glass, finished the drink.
