Kenza sat on the bench watching the two figures as they walked in opposite directions of each other. Just such a short time ago, they had been nearly inseparable, yet things had changed. Maybe it was for the best? Maybe not? She recalled the conversation where she learned of the split between the pair.
----
"Aileyan," Kenza stated loudly as she entered the chamber. She'd followed her fellow greenrider after the last wing meeting.
Finally, catching up to the other rider, Kenza caught her arm. They two hadn't been particularly close before, nor had they been cold either. They worked together, lived together and talked when they needed to, but this time, Kenza felt the need to talk to the younger greenrider.
"Aileyn, I need to talk to you."
"Yes, Wingthird. About what?" Aileyan asked, although she was bit annoyed. She was supposed to feed Timor and then she had planned to bath Kjarliheth.
She'd never been overly close to Aileyan, but all riders had to look out for one another. "Look Aileyan, I didn't come here to talk business, and you know what's best for you, but from one greenrider to another, I had to talk to you. U'kaiah's a great wingleader, and good at what he does, but the talk amongst some around the Weyr is that you've got a _thing_ for him. Watch your back. If you want a fling now and again, enjoy it, but don't expect anything more." Kenza stopped, knowing she'd probably already pushed the younger rider enough, but she had to add, "The others are wagging their tongues about the pair of you and why _him_. Almost as though they doubt your abilities as a rider because of this. You need to know, Aileyan, no matter how hard this is to hear." Kenza didn't beat around the bush. She figured she'd either get an earful of her own or some other strange reaction, but at least she'd delivered the message she'd come to deliver.
Aileyan just stared the older greenrider speecless for a moment. She had just broken up with U'kaiah and now this. It was all most too much. "For your information, the _thing_ between me and U'kaiah is over now, so you shouldn't worry," she said stiffly, blinking away the need to cry.
Kenza paused, wondering what had brought such an end to the pair. "You fell for him, didn't you? He's quite good at what he does." Kenza snorted a bit, remembering him as a kid hardly out of diapers. Even then he'd been breaking hearts all over the Weyr. It was what he did best. "I'm sorry things didn't work out for you. U'kaiah's a good wingleader, and if you enjoy your time with him, then whose to stop you. We greenriders have to look out for each other sometimes. I trust U'kaiah with my life, but I can't say I'd trust him with my heart." **Not that I've ever _really_ trusted anyone with _my_ heart**
"You seem to know what you want, perhaps its time I went about my other business," she could sense that Aileyan was not exactly happen with the situation between her and U'kaiah, but Kenza felt that she'd already said her piece for the day and perhaps it would be best if she went on her way.
"No, you really can't trust your heart to him," Aileyan agreed with her on that.
"How did he take the news?" Kenza asked, knowing U'kaiah was never one to enjoy being dumped by another and she couldn't see why _he_ would have ended things.
"I don't really know, it's hard to say what he feels sometimes," Aileyan twisted her hands. She had not thought about that, should she worry about him? "He seemed to take it all right, but he also went kind of distant."
"That sounds like U'kaiah to me," Kenza replied. "He backs off quite a bit, but I wouldn't be surprised if you see him again soon. No is not a word he likes to hear. You'll have to decided how you want to handle him then."
Aileyan nodded. "Thank's for the advice," she said softly. A part of her wanted to confide with her, but she didn't know the older greenrider well enough to be able to do that.
"I won't keep you, Aileyan. Though, please know I'm here for you if you ever need someone. I know good ole U'kaiah well and we greenriders _do_ have to look out for one another.
Aileyan nodded. "I keep that in mind," she said with neutral tone.
