Description: N'vanik stops by to visit his friend
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 12, day 16 of Turn 5
Loseth bugled a greeting to the watch dragon and circled down toward
the Weyr. It still felt weird coming back to Dragonsfall. It always
brought up memories, good and bad, and he was never sure which
particular memories would come to the surface when he came here. Today
he remembered the arguments he'd had with Kenza over Talryne. For a
while he'd made a point of mentioning that Tal was still alive, as if
proving Kenza wrong was so important. It had put a strain on their
relationship and he realized he valued the greenrider's friendship too
much to be that petty. Kenza was one of the few people that understood
him and spending time with her was a welcome relief from his duties.
}:I told Solith that we're here,:{ Loseth said.
}:Loseth's and his are here:{ Solith told her rider.
Kenza looked up from the parchments she'd been examining. Her face
broke into a smile. She was glad he was here. She had missed him and
not seen nearly enough of him since he'd made Weyrleader. For awhile,
she'd worried their friendship would never mend, but time healed most
things, for which Kenza was grateful.
**Tell him he can come to my weyr.** Kenza had Solith relay the
message through Loseth.
N'vanik gave his bronze a pat as the dragon turned toward Kenza's
weyr. Loseth landed and touched Solith's muzzle in greeting. Loseth
had a fondness for the green and had caught her twice. N'vanik was
glad they were living in a different Weyr so he wouldn't have to wake
up next to Kenza after a flight again. He slipped down off his
dragon's neck and stepped into the weyr. "Hey Kenza."
"N'vanik!" She called out, rising and moving with open arms towards
her good friend. "Welcome to you and Loseth. What brings you here
today? A pleasant surprise, of course!"
He let her hug him -- one of Kenza's privileges. "Do I need a reason?"
"Of course not," she told him happily. "It's good to see you again.
Come, come in. I've got some fresh klah or if you'd like something a
bit stronger?" She arched her eyebrows playfully as she turned and
moved back across the room to pull out fresh cups for the both.
"Wine would be good." N'vanik settled into a chair. "So how are things
in Dragonsfall?"
"Same as usual," she answered, filling the cups with wine, "Well,
except for the fact that my son, Kendale Impressed at the last
hatching. He's K'ale now." She was beaming a smile when she carried
the wine to N'vanik. Pride for her son evident in her demeanor. "How
are things at Dolphin Cove?"
"Hey, now! That's big news. Congratulations." He grinned. "What color?"
"Brown," she said the word proudly. "Quite a name, too! Imalkyth. I
couldn't be happier." Handing him the cup, she raised it, "To
Hatchings and Impressions!"
"Hatchings and Impressions," he agreed as they touched glasses. "I
remember how happy I was when Cosani Impressed."
"That was a good time as well," she replied, having finished her
drink. "How is Cosani doing? And how's Traelyn? She has been rather
quiet of late."
"Cosani is doing good. No scorings yet, thank Faranth. And sometimes
she forgets to be annoyed when I talk to her." He chuckled, and then
his mood darkened. "Trae is ..." He shrugged. "Doing whatever she
does."
"Isn't that always the way with the Weyrwoman?" Kenza replied, lightly
with a shake of her head. She didn't know Traelyn well, so she could
not speak much of her. "Another?" She asked, lifting the bottle of
wine, ready to pore it for N'vanik. He'd always been able to keep up
with her own strong stomach. Well, what _used_ to be a strong stomach.
In more recent years, she'd had to restrain herself else she end up in
a drunken stupor. N'vanik had witnessed some of that back in his days
at Dragonsfall.
Thinking about Traelyn made him want to drink, so ... "Yeah." He held
out his glass. "Didn't you mention before that Kendale ... er, K'ale's
father was back?"
She poured one for both of them and took a sip. When he spoke of
D'ale, her eyes _did_ light up just a smidge. He had always been a
good lover and she was enjoying his company quite a lot in recent
days. "Yes, he returned just recently. Partly to watch K'ale Impress,
but also, I think he missed Dragonsfall more than he would admit." She
couldn't say she was unhappy since his returned. He knew how to make
her happy, and he did it quite well.
"Are you getting along, or avoiding each other?" He thought he'd seen
something in her expression, but he wasn't sure.
"Getting along," she told him, hiding her smile in her cup. When she
looked up she couldn't hide it anymore and she chuckled. "Quite well,
if you get my drift." She enjoyed teasing N'vanik, and she knew he
would definitely understand her meaning.
He smiled back. "Ah, so there is a man out there that can handle you."
She laughed lightly and swatted at him, but her eyes were dancing.
"I'm well worth the effort, too," she added with a chuckle and a wink.
"I hope you don't hold it against me that I don't want to make that
kind of effort." It was good to see her happy.
She laughed and snorted. "You have your hands full as it is! Besides,
I don't need things to complicate the friendship we've shared for
Turns, N'vanik!" Lifting her glass she saluted. "To lasting
friendship!"
"To lasting friendship." He echoed, and started to lift his glass.
Then he added, "And to people that can handle us."
