Since Rialine and her father moved to the Vintner Hall she had been working on a new quilt. She had already gotten ready to prepare for dinner, but was waiting for her father to return home so she continued to stitch, enjoying a moment of quiet and privacy.
Talrian arrived late, as usual, stomping the snow off his shoes in the entry way before coming into the sitting area. "Working on your quilt, are you?"
"Whenever I have a spare moment Papa," she said rushing up to help him out of the winter gear. "No emergencies today?" she asked, her daily question.
"No emergencies," he replied cheerfully, shaking his head. "I can take my own coat off you know," he chided as he took the garment from her and hung it up. "Though I appreciate the thought."
"Sorry Papa," she replied, "You know I just like helping. Oh! now that you're home, I should get dinner cook." She skipped into the other room and began heating what she had prepared earlier.
He pulled his boots off and set them next to the door before following her into the kitchen. "And what are we having for dinner this evening? Whatever it is smells wonderful."
"Meat, tubers, in gravy, all wrapped in pastry," she said, quite happily.
She had tried a new combination of herbs for seasoning she was excited about.
"I brought back a bottle of wine to go with it," Talrian said with a wide smile, holding up the bottle he'd carried back. "Jio promises that it will be highly enjoyable."
Rialine's ears perked up at the name. "And how is Journeyman Jio,"
she asked, politely of course as she took the bottle from her father, eyeing it. **I wish I knew what I was supposed to be looking for** she thought as she viewed the bottle.
"Oh, he's well. I'm thinking I might try to sneak him away to the Weyr to visit Abrei sometime in the next month. I think we're going to have something she'll be _very_ interested in seeing..." Talrian went to find a corkscrew. "Would you be interested in visiting? Maybe your sister could come over from Dragonsfall."
"Yes, of course!" she said excited, enough so to be distracted from her thought of Jio. Although she had chosen not to go to the Weyr, she still found it a thrilling place. She also liked her father's cousin quite a bit, an impressive women to look up to. "And we never see Talryne enough. A big family gathering, I can't wait. When can we go Father?"
"I'll write to Talryne and Abrei and see when all of our schedules are free." He poured two glasses of wine and set one on the table, holding his own up to admire the color. "I won't ever get tired of the marvelous wine we have here."
"Yes," Rialine agreed, returning to finish up on dinner in the kitchen.
"The Vintner Hall, is quite a marvelous place, at times,"
she added, on the end. She paused for a moment thinking. "Father?
didn't Abrei mention a hatching coming up, last time she wrote?
Maybe... we could go then?"
"I don't see why not," Talrian replied after a moment's thought. "I'll see if that works for everyone."
Rialine gave a twirl in delight. And in doing so knocked over one of her spoons. "Oops," she said, quickly reaching for it and giving it a wash before returning more sedately to the stove.
Talrian laughed, shaking his head. "What would I do without you, Rialine?"
"I don't know father," she said, blushing in embarrassment for having knocked over her spoon. "Luckily, it will be a while yet, before we find out, won't it?"
"Unless you know something I don't..." Talrian grinned at her. "You don't, do you?"
"I don't know anything father!" she protested, then laughed, realizing how that sounded "I mean I don't know, a thing, about, about, about leaving."
Rialine did know she was coming of age though, and there were certainly some men, man, she was interested in.
"Well, make sure you _do_ tell me if something comes up," Talrian said firmly, having already seen the way his daughter looked at Jio. Not that he disapproved... he found Jio to be enjoyable to work with and thought he would make a fine husband for his daughter... but he wasn't about to rush things.
Rialine came over to Talrian, and gave his shoulders an embrace. "I will Papa."
