Description: G'wen has a peep talk with Kenza about Neath's behavior
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 13, day 29 of Turn 5
Notes: Mentioned: K'ale
Neath sat back and gave a huge belch, before stretching her wings and
flapping them. "Neath!" G'wen yelled, as sand and dirt and shards
knew what else flew into his hair and eyes. He threw down the knife
he had been using to carve the herdbeast for her lunch in disgust.
}:Opps, sorry:{ The young green flipped her wings to her back as she
eyed her glaring lifemate. }:But that bronze over there was looking
at me:{
**He was probably looking at that green behind us**
In fact, looking around the feeding grounds, there could have been any
number of greens that would have caught the big bronze's eye. G'wen
privately doubted that a baby dragon was the object of his affections.
But he let Neath believe it, as it would make his life easier and he
had learned to pick his battles with her.
Solith, however, was enjoying the attentions directed her way by the
other male dragons near the feeding grounds. She swooped for another
beast, catching it in her claws and quickly snapping its neck. As she
carried the creature to the heights, she did a few extra swoops for
the males.
**Solith, stop showing off,** Kenza chuckled under her breath as she
watched her green flirting with the males.
}:I like to make them desire me!:{ **Oh, yes, Solith, don't I know it!
How many turns have we had this same conversation. Go have your fun,
sweet thing, but remember not to overdue it.**
Kenza was walking near the edge of the feeding pen when she spotted
the young green and her lifemate. Neath. That was the dragon's name,
and...he G'wan, or G'ren, wasn't that the boy's name? He was friends
with K'ale, as well.
Whilst Neath picked at her talons, G'wen watched some for the other
greens in the feeding pen. When he spotted Solith, he turned to look
for her rider, remembering what K'ale had said about talking to her
since her green too was headstrong.
}:I am_not_headstrong!:{ Neath retorted.
**Right, and I'm not short**
}:Neath's seems interested in us. I think he wants to speak with us.:{
Kenza looked towards the young weyrlings.
**Well, let's see what that's all about.** Kenza moved nearer to the
weyrlings. "G'wen, right?" She asked, knowing she'd gotten the name
right now for Solith had provided it to her. "Neath seems to be
growing well."
"Ah, thank you," the boy beamed. He patted his green, likewise
feeling she was growing well. Almost too well.
}:Of course I'm growing well. I'll be the biggest green here, just
watch.:{
The boy grinned at her boasts and said to the older woman, "she's on
yet another bragging spree. She's prouder than a queen, the way she
carries on."
Kenza chuckled, "Solith _still_ goes off sometimes on how wonderful she is."
}:I _am_ wonderful.:{ **Yes, I know and you never let me forget it.**
"Let her brag, but G'wen, I've watched the two of you together, and
from what I can tell, you need to teach Neath that she _has_ to listen
to you. She is like a child, a rather strong-willed one, but if she
doesn't listen, that child can find herself in a dire situation. You
cannot change who Neath is, but she must learn to respect your
decisions and you need to learn to trust in yourself enough to _make_
her respect them."
The boy quelled a bit under her stern words. He had gotten so used to
the gentle leadership of E'naer that he had forgotten that all green
riders in prominate positions weren't like the Weyrlingmater 3rd.
"Y-yes, ma'am." What had K'ale said? Just go ask his mum about her
troubles with her green? He made a mental note to punch his friend
next time he saw him.
She could tell from his stammered reply that she'd intimated him. It
was what she was good at. "Listen, G'wen. Neath is young still. You
need to help her learn that you are to be trusted. I can have Solith
speak to her if you'd like." She cleared her throat, uncertain what
else to say. She knew how to put people in their place, but Kenza had
never been all that good at the friendly, mothering ways.
"Oh, it's just your son had said something about Solith being
headstrong like Neath once and I should talk to you about how you
dealt with it. And I'm not sure having the two talk would be too
good...she already told Eillispeth off. "
"Solith could handle herself." Kenza replied. "And K'ale was right.
Solith has always been a rather headstrong companion, though she has
changed in recent years. In the early years, we argued quite a lot,
until I realized that I had to give in to her when the time was right
in order to get her to do what I needed her to do. You've got to be
loving, but firm at the same time." Kenza put her hand on the boy's
shoulder a bit awkwardly before dropping it quickly. "Look, I hear she
fashions herself to be a gold. That's not so bad, but she _will_ have
to learn her place and it's better she learn it from you then being
put in her place by the others." Kenza paused."If she doesn't learn
her place she could endanger you, herself and the rest of her wing.
It's going to take patience and a strong will of your own to get her
in line." She wasn't sure she was helping, but shards she was trying here.
Listening to her words, the boy shrunk into himself more, hunching his
shoulders up and crossing his arms. "Sometimes I do have to wonder
why she chose me and not a bigger, smarter partner."
Kenza looked him square in the eye, "The dragons know. Neath chose you
because you were destined to be her partner. Now _you_ just have to
believe you are worthy of her. If you don't believe in yourself and
her choice, you will change the relationship between you. You would
_not_ have been chosen if you were not a good partner, G'wen." She
wanted to clap him on the shoulder and tell him to buck up, but
looking at the way he held himself almost in on himself, she
refrained. It took every ounce of her self-control to use the
'friendly' words she did instead of tell him to shape up.
}:You know why I choose you:{ Neath told her lifemate, nuzzling up
behind him, all thoughts of bronze's forgotten. }:I was the first
female out, I could have had_anyone_and I choose you:{
The boy reached out to cup her face in his hands. To her and to
Kenza, he said, "I know. I just...I don't know...with everyone out
there on the Sands, I guess I wonder why me. But then again, I never
thought I'd see S'vin on a blue, or K'ale with a brown. I lost a few
marks when he didn't get a bronze!" With his quiet leadership
ability, G'wen had been so sure K'ale would have gotten a bronze. And
S'vin? He had already shagged half the blue population in
anticipation of being a green rider, and now he was one himself!
"I am proud that my son Impressed brown, G'wen. You should be proud
that Neath chose you among all." Kenza nodded towards G'wen and Neath.
"Trust Neath and she will trust you."
"Oh, sorry, I didn't mean it like that!" He was_so_going to punch
K'ale the next time he saw him. He didn't care that he was much
taller than him!The guy must be in the barracks now, pissing himself
laughing. 'Go talk to my mum' indeed!
Kenza chuckled at his reaction. "Go tend to your green, young
weyrling. Head her and teach her well. For if I have any say, I like a
strong willed green in my fighting wing."
That was something he hadn't even thought about, joining a wing when Weyrlinghood was finished. "O-okay," he studdered, wandering off with Neath in a daze. Yes, oh yes, K'ale was going to get it!
