Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 1, day 14 of Turn 6
Ah, E'rae. He was so nice looking; tall and dark just like J'zen liked them. The greenrider idly put his chin on his hands, half watching the bluerider from across the dining cavern.
His sister had left him sitting alone after a bronzerider had taken her attention--and her--up to his weyr for the evening. J'zen wasn't sure who he felt worse for...probably the bronzerider! He was just finishing up his glass of wine and then he'd just go back to his own weyr for the night, not being the type like Jaylene to just have fun whenever they wanted. No, he wanted something deeper, something lasting.
E'rae was sitting with some of his wingmates enjoying a large salad. The wingrider had been craving some greens and vegetables, but there were some meat strips in it too. He laughed at something a brownrider said before taking a bite.
J'zen gave himself a shake and laughed a bit at his daydreams. There was a nice book borrowed from a friend that had his name all over it, what was he still doing here? He stood up and, glass in hand, walked across the dining hall, just past the object of his idle thoughts. A nice glass of white would go well with the book, he thought.
Just as he was coming by, the bluerider moved around in his seat. Bringing his head up, it bumped into J'zen's knee and sent the poor rider sprawling.
What the...? The slender young man sat up from the crumpled heap he had become. Blinking and feeling more than a bit sheepish, he looked to see what the bloody shards had happened.
E'rae was holding his head, with his eyes closed. Once he had a handle on his own pain, he looked to see what had happened to J'zen. "Are you okay?"
"I think so." He rubbed his knee for a moment, trying hard not to blush. At least no one had laughed.
"Feck..I'm sorry. I didn't see you there. Come on and have a drink on me." E'rae continued to rub his head.
Really? J'zen couldn't believe his luck. "Okay then." He stood up and patted the back of the drudge who was cleaning up his shattered wine glass. "Good man, thank you," he told the young boy before hobbling over to E'rae's table and sitting down.
"I'm E'rae, blue Leith, Weyrleader's Wing." He'd been flying with them for turns now, which said something in itself.
"Yeah, I know," J'zen mumbled and then stopped himself with a slight blush. "Sorry, I didn't introduce myself. I'm J'zen, green Verlith's rider."
"I've seen you around, I know, but I guess we never ran into each other." When the drudge brought J'zen a drink, E'rae drank from his own.
Slipping the drudge a mark for all his hard work, J'zen turned back to E'rae. "We sort of did, once. At least I thought we had...didn't your blue chase my Verlith once a few turns back?"
E'rae frowned for a moment, then gave a sheepish look. "That's entirely possible. However, my memory isn't the best and Leith's is worse."
"Well..." The greenrider grinned and leaned forward. "_I_ remember and if I _do_ recall, that horrible L'lew got my green when I wanted it to be your Leith." There, let him make of that what he would.
"Leith says he'll try better next time," E'rae replied promptly. "When will that be then?"
"Ah, you boys just missed it. We got caught by that F'gen. Verlith has a thing for his brown, for some unknown reason. That man is so uptight about sharing the bed with a male greenrider, I'm surprised he hasn't disappeared up his own arsehole yet." J'zen laughed and
shook his head.
E'rae was a bit surprised at first, then a ghost of a smile crossed his face. "I don't like to speak ill of my fellows, but it can be unnerving at times. Then again, when we impress, we realize that's
part of it. I guess it'd be harder, though, if it wasn't by choice. Me, I don't care."
"Unnerving for you guys? What about us greenriders? I knew a boy once who woke up next to his very naked, very upset wingleader! No, it's not fun at all... sometimes." He took a sip of his wine and chuckled at the memory of H'klen's story of himself and his wingleader.
"Ah well, it's Weyrlife in all its glory." He drank some more of his beverage. "If we didn't have awkward moments to talk about, we wouldn't be winning flights."
"True." The young man sat back to watch him. "So you planning on winning any new Flights?" he teased.
"I never plan. Of course Leith flirts enough that it seems I have an advantage some of the time when the greens remember him." He rolled his eyes at mention of his dragon's behavior.
"Leith's pretty enough that even the most scattered green remembers him," J'zen said before looking into his now empty glass and eyeing E'rae woefully.
"Thanks, I'll be sure to tell him that though certainly he makes me do it every morning anyway." He chuckled, thinking his blue had the big head of a bronze at times.
"Good." The greenrider smiled at him before moving to stand up. "And on that note, I'll be off. There's a nice book back in my weyr calling for me."
"Have fun and thanks for not getting angry about that whole accident." He rubbed his head again as an afterthought.
"Well, I'll stay not angry if you have dinner with me some night. Then my green and your blue can get to know one another,"he said over his shoulder to E'rae as he walked away. As much as he wished the bluerider would drop everything and run after him now, he wasn't about to be easy; he knew his own worth and knew he was too good looking to have to beg after men.
}:Verlith, mine said something about dinner:{ Leith interjected, proving that the bluerider had caught J'zen's hint indirectly.
}:My weyr, tomorrow:{ she told him, happy with the prospect of spending the evening with such a handsome blue. J'zen would thank her later.
