K'ale

Not all Weyrs were the same.

Meledei, of course, new this but it was ever so poignant when she got
lost in Weyr that wasn't her Weyr. Things were never in quite the
same place and if she wasn't careful, she'd get turned around. Such
was the case today. She knew where the dining hall was, but she had
gone to visit a friend and walked her to the halls where the harpers
held their classes. Meledei had thought she could find her way back,
but she must have taken a wrong turn somewhere and now she didn't know
_where_ she was, except that she was no longer in the harper section.
She sighed, looking around, looking very, very lost.

"You look lost," his voice came out of the shadows of the junction.
He'd watched her turn in a couple of directions but only glimpsed her
knots. The darkened tunnel didn't give him a good look as he
approached. "Can I help?"

"I am lost!" Meledei couldn't help but laugh softly as she turned
toward the sound of a voice. "Very, very lost. I'm afraid I don't
wander these halls nearly as much as I should. Maybe I just need to
visit more often."

K'ale chuckled as she turned and then his eyes widened. Gold glinted
in her shoulder knot. "Well met Goldrider," he said "I'm K'ale, if
Imalkyth." He was certain she would automatically identify his
weyrling status from his own knots. "What are you trying to find?"

"Hi, I'm Meledei." The girl held out her hand and smiled, the
expression pleasant. "Just trying to find my way back to where I was.
Which was the dining hall. Or, actually, preferably, just back to
the bowl. Elleth's been waiting quite patiently for me."

"Meledei," he said and took her hand briefly. "The dining hall is that
way." he said pointing back behind her "and the bowl is that way," he
said pointing to their left.

"But I've been that way." Meledei stated almost plaintively when
K'ale indicated the direction of the bowl. "I swear, I think these
tunnels are changing on me and trying to get me stay!"

He chuckled "Well then let me escort you. I'm sure we can find
Elleth." }:I found her:{ said Ima from the bowl. He floated across the
bowl toward the visiting queen. She didn't seem as overpoweringly
large like his own dam Genith or Onnyth. **She wasn't the one who was
lost dear one** "Imalkyth has found her," he chuckled. "Like it's hard
to spot a gold in the Weyrbowl."

It had worked! Meledei grinned immediately when K'ale offered to
escort her. "Oh good, maybe I won't get lost this time. Unless the
halls really _are_ trying to eat me. Then any effort will be useless.
As for spotting her...she's small for a gold and for all I know, she
could have melted into the sand!"

He chuckled, small for a gold. "Well, Imalkyth is not yet fully grown
so I'm sure she's bigger than he. Considering he's a brown." He nearly
slapped himself in the forehead for stating the obvious. The brown
thread through his knots would have told her that much.

He turned and gallantly offered her his arm.

Meledei didn't make any comments in regards to the redundant
information. "You Impressed in the last clutch, with G'wen, right?"
He'd been one of those that she had visited in her trip to the Weyr.
"I'd love to meet your Imalkyth."

"I did!" he said with a smile. "G'wen's one of my best friends." He
wondered how the green rider knew a gold rider from another Weyr but
then anything was possible with G'wen. "I'd love you to meet him and I
would be honored to meet Elleth."

"Really? Small world. Well, to meet her, we're going to have to get
out of this labyrinth." It was much easier now that someone who knew
where he was was showing her the way. When they stepped into the
sunlight, Meledei blinked against it, then let her eyes sweep the bowl
before pointing toward the figure of her dragon, gold and glinting as
she bathed in the sun. "There she is."

The weyrling brown was in front of the gold reaching up his nose to
try an nuzzle her. "Ima!" Only half grown the brown turned his
whirling happy eyes to his rider. }:She's so pretty:{

He chuckled. "He thinks she's pretty."

"She _is_ pretty. I would think something was wrong with him if he
did _not_ think that." Meledei giggled and drew closer to her
lifemate and lifted a hand to scratch a golden eyeridge. She tilted
her head, and a far away look dusted her gaze briefly. "Heh, she says
he's handsome." Her hand dropped to rest on her hip. "Well, I guess
I'd better get going. It was nice to meet you though."

K'ale placed a hand over his heart and bowed to the gold. "A very
great pleasure Elleth." Then he turned back to the young woman who
rode the petite queen. "Also a pleasure Meledei. If ever you need a
guide around Dragonsfall, I"m your man." He started to back away
while Imalkyth trotted out of Elleth's path arching his neck and
flaring his wings. "He's going to be impossibly vain until he forgets
this you know." K'ale could only imagine what Imalkyth was going to
say to Neath about a Gold thinking him handsome.
