Y'gel

Y'gel

"There's that girl again." Jessalyn commented as she drew alongside
Y'gel, a basket of clean bandages in her arms. Her eyes fell across
the beautiful young woman who seemed rather enraptured with a blue
who'd gotten scored in the last Fall. "I swear I see her here almost
every day, if only for a few minutes."

"Yes," he half smiled. "I think it helps her and it helps them." He
looked at Jessalyn "do you have enough help?" he knew their supply of
candidates was a bit low at the moment.

"I think it does too. I wish more people would come visit the dragons
- most of them like it." She shrugged. "I never mind help." And if
it meant a task was made more efficient by the use of two hands, Jessa
thought i made sense to do so. "Mind helping me fold and sort?"

"Not at all!" Y'gel grinned. He pulled bandages from the basket and
began rolling the longest ones he found. He'd always been good at
rolling them evenly on both sides. Well... not always but he'd learned
quickly. Old Master T'olsn had made quite sure of that. He glanced
back at Briata where she was communing with Gormth. He was healing
nicely. "Do you want to take lead on the next change of his
dressings?" he asked.

Jessalyn followed the older healer's gaze and nodded. "I can, no
problem. But I'll wait til she's done - no sense in interrupting them
since he seems to be enjoying her attention." Jessalyn expertly
rolled a bandage and set it to the side, then reached for another. "I
don't want her to feel like she has to leave, either."

He smiled at Jessalyn, "don't worry, she knows she's always welcome
here." he said.

"I wish more would do the same." Jessalyn repeated and glanced back
up, but the girl was out of site. "Oh, inventory's done. I put it on
your desk along with recommendations about how much of what should be
restocked."

"Excellent," he said with a smile. "Oh I did give the boy Angshel some
extra duties watching Gormth there. He seems eager. Take a look at him
when you have the chance and let me know if you thing we should
encourage him to Stand.

"All right. I'll check him out, though I'm no search dragon!" Jessa
had gotten to work with the boy a little, but not much, so she'd
definitely pay closer attention. Of course, the dragons were better
at telling, but sometimes there was just something about someone that
even the riders could pick up on. "How's he been working out?"

"He works hard and studies hard from what I've seen." All in all, he
knew he'd been kind of set up by the young woman who'd brought Angshel
to ask but he really was working out well.

"I'm glad to hear that. He seemed so...almost scared, really, when he
first started. I was afraid he wouldn't work out." Jessa had seen that
before, with people who had come to the Weyr. Most of the time it had
been the women running away from abusive situations. What had Angshel's
story been? She had never asked. "Almost done." She murmured as only a
few bandages were left. "I can take the rest. If you'll look at that
list for the inventory, I'll make sure things get put back in stock if you
like."

He smiled liking the way she was taking charge and making things
happen instead of waiting for instruction. He finished rolling the one
in his hand and went back into his office. The document wasn't
significantly different than his expectations other than their fellis
supply seemed to be dwindling a little fast. He stood and walked back
out into the cavern. "Are you certain of this number?" he asked.

Jessa had finished rolling the bandages and was placing them back in
the basket to carry them to where she would put them on a shelf. She
leaned over and looked at the parchment, then nodded. "Yes. I
counted it three times. I always count three times." Her gaze lifted
to the man. "I was rather wondering about it myself."

"I don't like it when supplies go missing. We may have to put it into
controlled storage, I'd hate to think we have anyone abusing." He knew
he'd have to report them if he found out who it was. That could get a
little dicey.

"To be honest, putting them into controlled storage wouldn't hurt."
Jessalyn pointed out. "I can do that before I replenish the stock.
I'll have to get a lock and a key from a smith, but then I can pass
that along to you."

"Lets make sure that each shift lead has a key and then at least we'll
have some control. Fellis addiction isn't pretty." He signed the list
and handed it back to her. "Thanks Jessalyn"

"Of course." Jessalyn allowed a smile for the Master and inclined her
head. "If there's anything else I can do, please let me know. I'll
get measurements and go to the smiths after my shift so they can start
on it right away."
