Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 3, day 2 of Turn 6
The Weyrwoman was heading through the dragonhealers' workspace since she
had assisted with some work earlier in the afternoon. As she walked by, she
noticed candidate cords on an apprentice's knots. Curious, she stopped to
see
a female head. "Having a good day hm?"
Gelira looked up at the sound of a voice. She'd been busy organizing the
various
supplies and hadn't even noticed the Weyrwoman's arrival. "Weyrwoman," she
greeted as she straightened. She wasn't sure if Rhosyn knew her or not. She
had
lived in the Weyr all her life, but she'd not really had many dealings
with Rhosyn
since she'd been named Weyrwoman. "You could say it's a good day. No new
injuries to tend to and those we've been treating are healing as expected."
"Good...and you look to be in good health." That wasn't a question
really. It was
time for one of the golds to go up again soon and it was necessary to have
good
candidates to put to the eggs. "How are your lessons?"
Y'gel come of of his office and smiled at the picture of the lovely
Weyrwoman talking to his daughter. He chuckled softly at the look on
his daughter's face. He watched but didn't join in giving them a
chance for some conversation.
"Oh, very well. I love helping the dragons and I've learned so much in
my time working with them. I'd love to make journeyman status one day,
but that might be looking a bit too far into the future." Gelira had
always had dreams and ambitions in her life, and now that she'd
finally decided she _wanted_ to Stand rather than just hover in the
back hoping none of the dragonets would chose her, she felt a newfound
sense of hope and desire.
"Mm that's true, you have to Impress to reach journeyman status or beyond.
Hopefully, your dragon will be on the Sands. You've got it in the Blood
though,
so it should work out someday." Usually, the Weyrbred were dependable,
though they had to Stand multiple times before impressing some of the time.
He couldn't resist any longer and walked toward the pair. Greeting the
Weyrwoman with a smile he said, "Good afternoon Rhosyn, I see you've
met my daughter." He put his arm around Gelira and dropped a kiss on
her head.
"Oh this one is _yours_?" She knew she was Weyrbred, but not by whom.
This was an interesting development indeed.
"Indeed she is," he grinned down at his daughter.
"Father," Gelira said, smiling up at Y'gel and returning his hug with
a squeeze of her own. She wasn't really sure what else to say in front
of the Weyrwoman.
"Well then we'll certainly expect good things from this one. Gelira, you've
probably been around enough green dragons by now. How many golds have
you seen?" Her mind was working. The girl had craft duties so Rhosyn
couldn't
nab her, but she could still introduce her to possibilities.
Privately Y'gel had been happier when Gelira had decided she was not
going to stand. She was the only living link between him and Liranet
and he above others knew what the loss of a dragon and her rider could
mean. Y'gel knew it was an intensely private selfishness and he
couldn't deny her the wonder of her own lifemate so when she'd told
him she wanted to stand he'd smiled and been very supportive.
He hugged her again and smiled at Rhosyn. He knew his weyrmate would
have been very proud of their daughter. One hand lifted to stroke her
dark hair. "She's already becoming a fine dragonhealer."
"Thank you father," Gelira smiled. Then turning her attention to the
Weyrwoman she answered her question. "I have, of course, seen them,
though I haven't interacted with many gold dragons at all. When any
have been in here for treatment they were always seen to by my father
or the masters, not us apprentices."
"Would you like to?" And of course that was a loaded question, but she was
betting on Gelira's being Weybred.
That was a pretty amazing offer. Y'gel squeezed her shoulders. "Looks
like you're done here. Go ahead if you want to. I'll have one of the
apprentices finish cleaning up."
She stared for a moment at the Weyrwoman before her father's squeeze
and words quickly sank in. "I would love to. I would do anything to
assist a gold dragon and her rider."
"Report to me after dinner then." And with that, Rhosyn headed off to finish
her rounds.
