Description: U'das and J'an go fishing
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 9, day 28 of Turn 3
U'das checked the straps that secured the fishing poles to Zack's back once more and gave them a tug.
"Bespeak to Alylth and ask if his rider is ready to go?" he asked.
}: Okay. Alylth, is yours ready? We're going fishing! :{ the bronze sounded excited and eager to go.
}:Mine says two minutes, he's just getting some food to bring with,:{ replied Alylth.
}: Two minutes, he's bringing food. Why can't you hunt on spot like we do?:{ "Guess we could, but cooking it would take too much time."
}: Eat it raw then. I don't burn my food before eating it.}: the bronze had answers to everything. U'das chuckled and shook his head, amused.
J'an turned up with a carisak after a few moments. "Just a few snacks," he said. "Something to keep us busy."
"Great, never liked raw fish anyway," U'das grinned. "Shall we get going before Zack's leaves without us?"
"Maybe we better, Alylth is curious as well."
U'das mounted his dragon and secured the straps. Zack launched himself to the air in smooth motion, rising to the /betweening/ altitude. They circled around until Alylth and J'an joined them.
U'das brought a familiar scene to his mind and sent it to Zackariath, **
This is our destination, pass it to Alylth.**
}: Done. :{, the dragon informed after moments of pause. U'das lifted his hand and gave the age old signal to go /between./ The signal would be recongnised by any rider anywhere on Pern. Alylth followed Zack, and the two rider pairs emerged over sparkling water. The river gently drifted towards the sea, flanked by meadows on one side, and gently sloping sand dunes on the other.
Zack decended and landed on sand dunes. His rider dismounted and started to unload the fishing equipment. "Lovely place, isn't it?" U'das asked when the Weyrlingmaster joined him.
"Beautiful," replied J'an. And it truly was. "Very peacuful and restful, isn't it."
"Yes it is. Fishing in place like this is the best way to relax and forget you worries that I know of."
"So do you just dangle the line in the water then?" asked J'an, as Alylth shifted slightly to allow his rider to dismount.
"Sometimes, when I'm really stressed" U'das confessed. "But most of the time I try to catch something."
"Caught anything big?" asked J'an.
"Sometimes, but the catch the really big ones, you have to go to ocean fishing. Put the basket under that tree, please, so it stays cool."
J'an did so, then took a look at the gear U'das had brought. "What do I do with this? Do I just drop that end in the water?"
"Let's see..." U'das started a quick course in fishing. "...and when you cast the line, make sure you have clear space around you. You don't want it to tangle with tree branches and I certainly don't want to remove hooks from anything but fishes", he finished his lecture. Then he picked up a rather shapeless, widebrimmed hat from his things and planted it into his head.
"A fishing hat?" asked J'an.
"Yup. Protects me from the sun. The disadvantage of being bald, no hair to protect me from sunstroke."
"But this is not a day for worrying about sunstroke, it's a day for fun."
"Exactly!" U'das agreed and wandered to the water's edge.
"Then lets fish!"
