K'reyel

After drills, the bluerider caught up with his Wingsecond. There had been a
lot of changes with the wing recently and E'rae didn't mind it much but he
wondered what changes could be coming. Sometimes just speaking with
K'reyel made him feel better.

"You did well out there today," K'reyel said as he noticed the bluerider.
"You've got that last formation down to a fine art."

"Thank you sir. I think we're all doing a lot better which is a good thing
after the that young bluerider getting hurt and all. Made the rest of them
tighten up I think." He wondered if K'reyel knew how the boy was doing.

"I hear he's doing well at the moment," was all K'reyel would say. the
details of the lad's medical record were not for public discussion, the
healers had made that clear.

"Good to know." He shook his head, thinking of what had happened. He
personally didn't agree with some of the things that had been done, but
it was over and done with. "When are we getting new ones?" He knew
that the latest weyrlings wouldn't be ready for some time, but there were
some before that. It was always safe to watch out for the little ones.

"It'll be a little while yet, but we'll cope."

"We always do." Looking up at the sky as he lugged his gear, he ducked
through the entrance to the Lower Caverns. "I heard F'rent's mate ended
up pregnant. Good on him."

"They've been together turns, so it was inevitable." Pregnancy was perhaps a sore spot, given that the healers had told him and Mai in no uncertain terms of the risks, should she become pregnant again.

"Yeah my Werenn still has a bit before she's old enough to Stand so it won't be this time around. I don't know what she's going to want though. She might end up meeting the right guy and deciding to move out of the Weyr for all I know." E'rae didn't know what he thought about his daughter leaving. It would depend on the man.

"Daughters," K'reyel said. "My Reyela will stand again this time round."

"Oh aye? Well good hatching to her then. We should have quite a few
candidates to send out there this time I think." Their new queen had produced one fine clutch. If this one went just as well, odds were the Weyr would be fine.

"We'll see, perhaps her green is out there, perhaps she isn't."

"So do you think after this flight that we'll get any new Wingleaders? I
hear M'ard was about to retire..." E'rae knew it didn't effect him much, but he wondered.

"That's something for Father and the other Wingleaders to discuss. M'ard
himself may have some input on who would be good."

"Oh aye? I know his Second is pretty cracking." That was the obvious choice.

"Sometimes though, the obvious choice is not the one that works out."

"Right, well I'll leave that to you all. I've got to get going to get a wash before dinner. See you later, sir." E'rae wouldn't bother him any longer, but he did feel a bit better about things.

"Bluerider."
