Description: Parale gets lost and Fymer brings her back.
Location: Sunstone Seahold
Date: month 3, day 2 of Turn 6
She had gone to the laundry to drop off their things. They
were all marked and she would pick them up later. Parale had
a bit of mending to do before the girls would be done with
their harper classes. She knew Ioven was hard at work somewhere.
Trying her best to find her way back to their quarters, she
must have taken a wrong turn, finding herself in a corridor
she didn't recognize in the slightest. Looking quite confused,
she backed up against the wall and tried to think.
At first, when Fymer spotted the woman, he thought about just
ignoring her and passing her. But she looked new and he was
curious. So he stopped. "Are you lost, can I help you?" he asked.
She turned around quickly, then saw the harper knots and relaxed.
"Oh please. I was trying to get back to my quarters, but I must have
taken a wrong turn and here I am." She frowned, hating this feeling
of being helpless.
"Do you remember where your quarters are? This place can be
confusing for a newcomer," Fymer asked.
"Maybe..you know my husband. He's a journeyman smith here,
Ioven?" she asked hopefully. Parale would never live this down,
she was sure.
"I'm sorry, I don't know him," Fymer shook his head. Smiths weren't
the folk he usually hung around with unless they shared his passion for
dragonpoker or dices.
"Oh well...maybe my children? Syren and Venrys? They go to harper
lessons still." He certainly wasn't a helpful harper. She was sure they
were supposed to know everything.
Fymer did help to teach the children now and then, although it wasn't
his main duty. He was a scribe. "Now, those names sound familiar.
Although I don't know where they live. I can show you where the
classrooms are however," he said. Maybe she could find her way home
there. "Wait, wasn't their mother dead?" he asked.
"Aye, I am their new mother," she said carefully. She needed to be nice
so this man would lead her out of her confusion.
"Ah, step-mother then," Fymer said. He certainly hadn't performed that
wedding. "When did you get married then?"
"We married before we got here. My mother wouldn't allow me to
go on such a long trip unchaperoned." She looked at him as if he
was crazy.
"Makes sense," Fymer said and offered his hand to her. "Come
along, let's find your way back home," he smiled politely.
She took it and allowed him to lead her through the hold. Parale
watched where they walked, hoping to get some sense of direction
at least.
"Do you have any place you could find your way home from, like the
kitchens?" Fymer asked.
"Oh yes, the dining hall I could do." That was easy without many
turns.
"To the dining hall, then," Fymer said. "Where are you from?" he asked.
"Garnet Valley Hold born and raised," she answered proudly.
"And now you are here, long way and a big change in climate," Fymer
remarked. He had visited Garnet Valley once and found it too cold for
his tastes. He was originally from Jade Harbour Hold.
"Yeah...the heat is...well I'm trying to get used to it. I probably take
more baths than most of the other folk though." She frowned, shrugging.
"Swimming is a good way to cool off too," the harper suggested. He
might hate ships and boats but he had nothing against a swim in the sea.
"I've never swam in the ocean before." Parale was used to the river.
She was slightly afraid of the waves, which was why she had yet to
take the girls.
"There are more calmer, sheltered bays around the hold, if you're
worried about the waves. They are almost like lakes," Fymer told her.
"Hmm maybe I'll try that. Do they have strange creatures in them?"
She didn't like the idea of huge fish who could be big enough to eat
her.
"No. You could run into a fair of wild firelizards," Fymer replied.
"Really? Garnet Valley isn't warm enough for the critters. Well
Alrog's wife has one but...it was an egg she got." Parale thought
that sounded stupid so she stopped talking.
Fymer just ignored her chatter. The arrived at the dining hall. "We're
here. I hope you can find your way from here."
"Thank you harper. I'm sure I will see you again." Parale was glad
to be somewhere she was familiar with. Looking around, she began to
get her bearings.
"Quite likely, I do teach the children now and then," Fymer told her.
"Have a nice day," he said politely before disappearing to his own work.
