"So how are you doing there kiddo?" He knew the boy was still healing.
E'rae looked him over, wondering how he was doing in the queens' wing.
"As well as expected. We are working our arses off to get back to full
strength," Im're replied.
"Aye. How's flying with the Weyrwoman? Well..she's not flying now but..
you know what I mean." Curious, he waited for Im're's reply.
"Different. The queen's wing doesn't fight Thread like the other wings do,
so there's a whole new style to learn. Gormth's very proud that he has
gotten
the honor of protecting the Queens. Even if he still has problems with his
injury."
"You know, I've never really even seen the golds in action. We're always
up high so..." E'rae thought about that.
"It's quite a sight. They are so majestic. And then we greens and blues are
darting around them," Im're said.
"How long do you think it'll be before you get back?" He had seen a bit of
the injury, but not all of it.
"They talked about two or three months, but I don't know for sure. I guess
it
depends how quickly Gormth and I get our strength back and catch up with
the drills," Im're said. "We both lost some muscles while recovering."
"Yeah, it can be hard. I was scored." He tried not to think about it most
days.
E'rae knew that thread didn't care who it ate. "Well that's not too bad.
It's not
quick, but at least you'll be flying."
"You're right, it could have been worse. It was awfully close to damaging
Gormth's
wings permanently," Im're replied and the mere thought gave him a chill.
"Can we talk
about something cheerier?" he asked.
"Sure. We're going to have another hatching soon," E'rae offered.
"Yes, that's always a nice event. And I like Hatching feasts too," Im're
grinned.
"I think everyone likes the food. And we all know from the last one that our
Weyrwoman likes food more than anyone. So no one is going to starve." E'rae
grinned, thinking.
"Yeah, and everybody loves a good party," Im're agreed. "Since we have that
new vintner, we should have plenty of drinks too."
"Aye that's a good one for sure. It'll take him a bit to get an operation
set up here
probably. We could get it from elsewhere though." He didn't know much about
wine,
really.
"With dragons, we can get it from anywhere," Im're said with short, amused
laughter.
"Yeah but the Weyrwoman thinks our dragons should be doing more important
things. Tamah usually gets that stuff by the boats I think." E'rae knew the
Harbormaster
was usually busy with all the stuff going in and out of the Weyr.
"He gets all kind of interesting stuff. Having your own port is certainly a
benefit," Im're agreed.
"Yeah. Otherwise it'd take forever to get tithes. Then we'd all starve."
E'rae grinned.
"We are kind of in the middle of nowhere," Im're said.
"Yep. I think it's because the holderfolk don't want to see us all walking
around half
naked." E'rae remembered those days, when he thought the same way.
That made Im're chortle.
