Location: River Bluff Weyr, Sunstone Seahold
Date: month 6, day 9 of Turn 6
Villith sat in the Bowl, waiting. The green was strapped up and everything
was almost ready. Patiently, she allowed her rider to run around her checking
and packing things. The pair of them were going scouting for good between
recognition points for the older weyrling class. Her head lifted as she saw a
blue nearby. Trips were so lonely..
Falzeth waited for D'arvn in the Bowl. Today's dispatches were fairly
light and they'd make quick work of the duty. His came trotting down
the steps with the pouch and made his final check, tugging on all the
appropriate places. ?"Morning D'lorn," he called.
"Hey there," he offered to the bluerider. "What's on your schedule today?"
}:Falzeth, are you busy?:{ Villith asked nonchalantly.
"Kind of light," he said. "Only one trip to Sunstone and wait for a
reply, then dispatches for Dolphin Cove and Dragonsfall. Though I'll
probably do it in the opposite order since they'll be going to bed
there soon." ?He looked at the green's harness. "What are you doing?"
"We're scouting between points for the middle class. Of course they
will all learn how to get to the Weyrs and the Holds and such, but there
are other places we try to get them to first for practice." D'lorn finished
his packing and looked back at D'arvn. "Dragonsfall hm? Hope you've
dressed warm."
"Oh, I always have a small pack with me to put on or take off as
needed." He'd been doing these runs for turns now and probably knew
about every major and minor hold in the south. He smiled and added,
"There are some great places around here. My day is a little slow
today. I could show you a couple if you'd like."
"I've got some in mind, but it's good to throw in a few new ones from time
to time. You're welcome to ride along if you want, but I wouldn't want your
messages to be late." D'lorn understood that duty came first.
"It's ok," he said with a smile. "Nothing is a rush. An hour or two
won't make any difference. Where would you like to go first?"
"Just follow us then. I'm going to use a usual recognition point then fly
straight from there to get one for the children." He had hide along with
him to write everything down that he needed. D'lorn headed up to get on
Villith.
}:I can show you Falzeth:{ she volunteered quickly to the blue as she made
ready to take off.
}:I'll follow you then:{ he returned admiringly as his rider scrambled
up onto his back. Falzeth's admiration for the green caused D'arvn to
raise an eyebrow and chuckle. "After you," he called.
Villith gave him the coordinates and then the green disappeared. She came
out over a section of beach down from Sunstone. She then proceeded to fly
straight as they searched for a proper recognition point for the young ones.
They popped into being a moment after Vilith and fell into formation
with the smaller green. He was familiar with the area having flown
Threadfall there just recently and many many times before that.
}:Wonderful weather today and the sun glitters off the water:{ Villith
observed. She liked water and would be playing in it if they didn't have a
task. When D'lorn saw a small hill that was flat topped behind the sand, he
got her to land.
Falzeth followed them down to the top of the hill. "It's pretty here,"
called D'arvn.
"Aye it is." He began to hurriedly draw the image in his head on the hide.
D'lorn wasn't the best artist, but as long as he had the basics of the image,
he could easily teach it to the children. "So how is life in the wings?"
"It is what it is. Though I spend most of my time taking messages here
and there." He half smiled. "When I get back, there's drills and
Thread." The work was the work. The only beauty was in the fabrics he
loved and the colorful threads he wove.
"How is it training the young ones?"
"Always thread," D'lorn agreed. He continued working while they talked.
"I like it. It's hard sometimes watching them struggle through learning
things, but in the end it's worth it when they do something right." Smiling
to himself he thought about one of the dragonets.
D'arvn shook his head. "I don't know how you do it."
"Why's that?" He glanced up at D'arvn as he began to put up his things after
finishing the drawing he needed.
"Don't you get attached to them?"
"To a point. Everyone has their favorites. And yeah, the Blooding part
can be hard, but we all go through it as a riders. I've seen my wingmates
die around me, so to me it's no different." D'lorn had learned to detach
himself for survival.
"Yeah," he said. "I don't know if I could do that. I think I'd rather
search them out for you."
"Let's get on to the next one then." Villith readied herself, then the green
was up in the air, waiting to receive the image from her rider. She was enjoying
this-showing off for Falzeth.
}:She's cute:{
**So's her rider**
Falzeth launched after the green and D'arvn chuckled at the trend of
his thoughts.
