"Care for a walk?" the brownrider asked her. She was a quite good looking
little greenrider and he was always looking for something new to try.
Shells, it wasn't like he was getting any younger anyway and she wasn't
in his wing either. That meant P'nal couldn't be accused of favoritism
or any other stupid thing.
Gilsha looked up at the brownrider, rather surprised at being spoken to.
"To where?"
"Anywhere," he replied, looking at her with the obvious in his eyes. He
wouldn't push, though. No, the brownrider wanted to be asked. Placing
his hands in his pockets, he considered the possibilities.
The greenrider narrowed her eyes slightly with an almost pitying look on
her face. "You don't do this very often, do you."
"No," he admitted easily. "Am I that bad?" He sighed, looking down at
his pockets. "I've been out of practice," he tried for an excuse.
She smiled, accepting his answer for what it was. "Well, I can give you
a hint. You ought to have an idea for a destination in mind _before_
you ask someone to go for a walk. You might end up walking her off the
side of the cliff otherwise."
"Well, it's kinda cold outside. What about just through the tunnels?"
That made sense to him. Grateful to her for not making him feel like a
total fool, he thought about something else. "And then maybe some klah
after?"
"Ah, again, the tunnels? Walking a girl alone through dark, secluded
places with plenty of twists and turns to get in and yet nothing really
to see?" She shook her head slightly. "That makes a girl think two
things, either first of all, you have too little imagination, or second,
you are imagining too much."
"Well where else would you walk then? Take a ride to the beach maybe
and then walk in the moonlight?" P'nal began to think. Maybe that _was_
a good idea.
"Trying too hard now. It's much too soon for that." The poor fellow,
she thought with a kind smile. She was not at all mocking. "That's a
romantic gesture which would make me think that you either are confident
that you will charm me quickly out of my pants, or that you are a
stronger believer of love at first sight than I am."
"Well then, if you were me, what would you do?" There was a curious tone
in his voice as he received this education. He was also genuinely
enjoying the back-and-forth of the conversation.
"If I were you, I would accept the fact that I had made a mess of it,
accept that the outcome you had hoped for is just not going to happen at
this point, shrug it off because sometimes that just happens, and either
find another lady and hope things go better, or offer me that cup of
klah anyway with the hope of making a new friend at least." Gilsha was
not one to fall into bed with someone she had just met outside of a
Flight, but she would also never be dismissive of their feelings if they
sincerely tried. He seemed nice enough, and a cup of klah sounded good
about then.
"Klah it is then," he replied as disappeared for a moment to grab a mug
from the nearest pot. Coming back, he offered it to her. "I didn't know
how you took your sweetener so I left that to you." There were small
containers on every table so he didn't have to worry about getting any
of that.
"Just a bit of milk. I'll find us something sweet." There should be
desserts somewhere, and Gilsha was feeling a hankering for something to
go along with the klah. "Cookies all right with you?"
"No objection here," he told her as he sipped his own klah and then
started to blow it. It was fresh and hot and for that he was grateful.
P'nal had a weakness for the warm stuff during winter and he had to
watch that he didn't drink too much, causing less sleep and other
problems.
"Here you are. I have a weakness for cookies," she said, setting a
plate with a few small stacks of the tasty treats down on the table.
"They always go best with klah. Or milk."
"So, forgive me for not asking you earlier, but what's your name?" After
he asked her, he took a cookie and had a bite. Chewing, he nodded his
head. It was pretty good.
She accepted his not knowing her. "Gilsha. I ride green Palialohath."
"Too bad you're not in my wing-you seem like you'd be a fine addition."
Grabbing his klah to wash the cookie down, he set it back on the table
and chewed for a few moments before swallowing. "P'nal, brown Jodeth.
We fly with G'nir."
He was rather quick to come to that conclusion. Or did he tend to judge
a greenrider's capabilities from their looks? "Thank you, but I fly
with U'kaiah. I like the Wing I'm in."
"So do I. Since you're in another wing, I don't have to worry about an
awkward position. These cookies couldn't possibly be a bribe." One of
his eyebrows came up and he smiled as he finished off his klah.
"Trust me, you should expect much more than cookies if you wish to be
bribed." She blew a puff of air over her mug of klah before taking a
sip.
"Oh aye. What might I be expecting then?" This conversation was bound
to get interesting. He was also enjoying the verbal sparring and the
slight tension in his body as he regarded her kept him attentive.
"I think it would depend on what you could be bribed to do for someone."
A Wingsecond was not exactly all powerful, after all.
}:Our weyr is stinking. You have to do something about it:{ Jodeth was
so tired of the curing hides that were causing a stench. The brown was
considering sleeping on the Rim.
**Allright I'll be there shortly** P'nal sighed, considering how he was
going to manage that problem. It was likely that their neighbors might
complain soon. "I better not count my cookies then. Gilsha, if I may
take my leave..I need to see to my dragon."
Gilsha was a little disappointed that he had not given her a real
response. She was curious just how he could be bought! But it was a
decent enough excuse, and a graceful escape. "Thank you for the klah
and the cookies all the same, P'nal."
"It was nice spending time with you. I wouldn't mind doing it another
time if I ever see you around," he replied before standing and making his
exit. Her face was still in his mind's eye though. She was smart and
opinionated and he liked that.
