"So you're the new guy right?" The bluerider walked up after the wing
meeting, determined to be some sort of ambassador for the wing. He'd
been at River Bluff since impression so he supposed he was qualified
to greet newcomers.

"Yes. D'ren, of bronze Menanth." The young man held out his hand.

"Welcome to River Bluff. E'rae, blue Leith." He took the hand, gave it a
shake, and let go. The bluerider considered. He was young, but it was
good to have any bronze. He was also still alive.

"Have you been here long?"

"I Impressed here, so it's been quite a few turns aye. From Garnet Valley
originally though. Got the tour yet?" After what happened to Im're, he sort
of thought it would be good to welcome the new guys, whether they be
weyrlings or not.

D'ren smiled. "I ran into a very helpful Candidate. I think she has a
crush on me."

"Ah well there you go. So you are now in the Weyrleader's Wing which means
a Weyrleader and a former Weyrleader for wingleaders. Of course old U'das was
Weyrleader for turns and turns too so River Bluff's wings are led pretty well."
E'rae was particularly proud about that really. "And I'm sure you've probably
seen the Weyrwoman." Everyone knew she went to Dolphin Cove so that was
a no-brainer.

"Oh, yes. She called me into her office my first day. She seems nice."
Maybe it was just an act, but so far she didn't seem as bad as the
rumors made her out to be.

"Ah." E'rae had never had much run-ins with her, but from what he saw she
was an okay sort. Of course he had also heard the rumors. "She's the reason
why we have good food I think, though the Headwoman works hard don't get
me wrong."

"Really? You mean because of the tithes?"

"No...more like Rhosyn really likes it and she makes sure to go over the menus
with the headwoman. Plus if it got to her table and it tasted bad, there'd probably
be...well it'd be bad." That much about the Weyrwoman he did know.

"Oh, does she have a temper then?" D'ren wanted to know so he could avoid it.

"It doesn't come out very often, so as long as you don't royally screw up, you'll
be okay. Though she did get a little odd last time her queen was supposed to go
up." He hadn't had much interaction with her then, either, but E'rae had heard
rumors from others who had.

"Ah, well. Then hopefully I'll be okay. Any other warnings you should
give me?" D'ren said with a hint of humor.

"Our Wingleader is the father of our Wingsecond so never talk about one to the
other," he said with a grin.

D'ren laughed. "I'll keep that in mind."

"Betcha like the weyr upgrade," he commented, remembering Dolphin Cove had
been built in a hurry.

"I have my own bathing room!" What a luxury that was.

"And electricity. Glows are great but..there's nothing like lamps and
overhead lights you can turn on at night." E'rae didn't have to worry about
refilling his glow baskets when they got dim.

"That too," D'ren agreed. "I missed that after I left Harper Hall, but
this is the first time I've had my own bathing room."

"Don't tell your friends. Everyone at Dolphin Cove will want to come
here and we'll have bad relations," the bluerider joked.

"Your secret is safe with me." D'ren didn't add that he didn't have
many friends to tell anyway.
