Description: Parale and Corven have a chat.
Location: Sunstone Seahold
Date: month 8, day 1 of Turn 6
Her trip to the hold's larder was almost done. Parale had gotten her
sevenday's allowance of groceries and was eager to get them put up.
Carrying the baskets with her using a small yoke to put over her shoulders,
she was heading back to her quarters.
Corven was whistling to himself, a basket of fruits and vegetables
stashed under his arm. Normally his wife, Leandra, would take care of
getting their sevenday's allotment, but she was in bed with a fever
and with three children to feed the task fell to the beastcrafter to
do the job.
Seeing a familiar figure ahead, Corven's easy, long strides quickly
brought him just behind the woman, "Good day, Parale."
She turned and almost whacked him with one of the baskets, but caught
herself with an embarrassed smile. "Good day, journeyman." She knew
her husband, as a crafter, knew most of the Hold's higher craftsmen, but
there were quite a few she didn't know that well. Their women, however,
she had met usually.
"I would say that Leandra sends her regards, but she's down with a
fever." Corven shared as he fell into step with Parale, joining her in
their common path.
"Oh, has she seen Parme yet? She's got something for everything." She
didn't mind saying that since it was likely true.
"I'm supposed to go by and ask Parme to visit, and I'm glad you
reminded me or Leandra would have had my head for sure." Corven shared
an easy smile with Parale, lifting his eyebrows to emphasize his
point.
"Mmm...it can be painful, being ill. Not being able to do anything is also
irksome. Maybe I can make some soup for her..." Her mind started turning.
It would give her an excuse to get away for a bit.
Corven was glad that Parale seemed to empathize with how his wife was
feeling, "I think that would make her feel a lot better, Parale. She's
getting tired of having to lay in the bed, I can tell. Soup and a
little female company would lift her spirits."
"Hmmm and how are you doing with the children?" That was a question she
had asked many times before.
"Well..." the man paused, shooting Parale a grin, "They're still
alive, if that counts." He laughed a little, shaking his head, "No,
they're fine. Luckily the oldest, Carana, is good at mobilizing and
leading the youngest two. She's helped out tremendously since her
mother has been sick."
"Very good to have one of those. Venrys is getting to be quite helpful,
though she's nowhere near old enough to be doing quite so much." At
least the man had help.
"Yes, Carana is twelve this Turn," Corven said proudly.
"About four more turns and you'll have to start thinking about marriage."
Parale remembered her own failed attempts at bargaining. Then again,
things had been a little more bleak when she'd been growing up. Now
things were settled and almost back to normal, though nowhere near as
widespread as they had been before the plague.
Corven shook his head, "I don't even want to think about giving my
daughter away. Maybe she'll decide to be a spinster and stay with us."
He joked.
"That wouldn't be fair to her and you know it, though it would be hard.
The day will come for mine someday and I'm sure I'll be picky for them.
It's only right they have children of their own though. Don't you want
grandkids?" She was decades from that, though.
The man smiled fondly at just the thought of grandchildren, "Aye, that
I do. I _suppose_ I'll have to let her marry then, but I have this
feeling her mother will be even more selective than me!"
As it came time for the two to part ways, Corven inclined his head to
Parale, "It's been a pleasure walking with you Parale."
"You as well. I may see you later," she warned before disappearing
with her foodstuffs for the larder.
