They were up in the air, beneath all the other wings as usual. The
three golds were spread out through the wing, with Orlaith in the
center, Vilarth as the left pinion, and Alabieth as the right pinion.
The other dragons filled in the gaps and the points. Rhosyn could see
everything, as was her preference, and it made sense to keep the
senior queen in the middle where everyone else could protect them. As
she waited to hear if any distress calls came, she raised her
flamethrower and took aim, searching for any stray clumps that might
have made it through.

Gormth was gliding behind the mighty queens, ready to dart after any
Thread they would spot falling through the upper ranks. Both rider and
the dragon were enjoying the flying. Things were quiet in the queen's
wing right now, no Thread got past the upper wings.

Vilarth kept easily her position left and slightly behind the senior queen.
Lenala was concentrating on job, trying to keep distracting thoughts away.

Ciara flew on the outside of Lenala, her straps full of firestone
sacks. She couldn't actually see the leading edge of the Fall above
them but she did see gouts of flame erupting from the wings above.
Ellianith chewed on the stone she'd just been given as they waited for
strays from above.

Flying slowly as the fall progressed, Rhosyn made a mental note to tell
K'sedel later they hadn't seen much. The wings were doing fine. **Looks
like it might be a boring day**

}:It is a pretty easy fall so far. The others are vigilant and the
weather is good:{ Orlaith remarked as she continued flying straight,
holding the formation.

Sometime after that, though, a clump managed to get through. Rhosyn
encouraged her wingriders to call their shots-it prevented injuries and
confusion.

"I got it!" Lenala called and aimed her flamethrower. ** Duck your head,
my pretty,** she warned Vilarth, for the angle was difficult. The gold
instantly lowered her head and Lenala flamed. The clump was bit too
far and the flamethrower's range ran out. She managed to scorch half
of it before it fell out of range.

}:Gormth, catch the rest! :{ Vilarth called to the young blue.

Gormth instantly dove down, flaming the Thread as he went.

}: Watch out for my belly! :{ Vilarth scolded him, feeling he was
flaming a bit too close to her perfect hide.

}:I wasn't even close to you, :{ the blue cheerfully answered. The
pair watched the silvery Thread turn to ash with satisfaction. As
threadfall progressed and the dragons above them got tired, more
spores found their way to the queens below. It wasn?t a huge amount
compared to how much fell, but they got to flame their share. Rhosyn
praised her riders for how well they were doing-making sure there
would be nothing for the ground crews to get.

}:Ellianith, soon you will have to rest:{ Orlaith told the green dragon
in a mothering tone. The blues would be next, of course.

Ciara could sense the beginning of weariness in her lifemate along
with her determination to protect the queens. "There," she shouted
pointing, but Im're and Gormth were out of position and below Vilarth.
As only a green can seem to move she shot up and sideways to flame a
falling clump that threatened their Senior Queen.

Rhosyn had raised her flamethrower but Ciara had gotten there first.
Giving a small hand signal to let her know she had done well, the Weyrwoman
pulled her wing back together while the tired dragons switched with
the reserves to fight out the rest of the fall.

As some of the new ones came in from /between/, she saw a blue above
them disappear, crying out in pain. The scored dragon left a clump that
was coming straight down. }:We have it!:{ Orlaith wasn't the fastest dragon,
but she was powerful. Surging upward to meet the thread so her rider could
be where she needed, the great queen's whirling eyes were red as she met
the ancient enemy. The flamethrower erupted and soon the thread was ash.
Rhosyn's eyes stayed open for any others as Orlaith dropped back down to
join the wing.

When her replacement arrived Ciara had Ellianith coordinate with the
other rider and when they were ready she gave the command to go
/between/ back to the Weyr.

Lenala shook her tank, it felt almost empty. **Vilarth, I'm running out of
agenothree here, ask for new tank.** She felt her gold reach out to talk
with another dragon. It didn't take long for a weyrling to appear with a
full tank. Long practice made the switch go fast and smooth. Lenala was
still nervous she would screw up and drop the tank or miss her throw.

Relaying the reports from the other wingleaders, Orlaith received a distress
call. }:Vilarth, there is a brown falling. He is coming down and will be
upon us soon if you do not catch him: Doforith!:{ Making sure the other
queen knew exactly how urgent it was, she then began to relay messages to
the others to change formation so if the brown did fall through the wing
before being caught, they wouldn?t be harmed. Mindful that she had to keep
her eyes open for falling clumps, Rhosyn kept a cursory glance going to see
if she saw the brown at all.

"There!" Lenala cried and pointed, but Vilarth had already spotted the
falling brown. She rose to meet him. The queen used her massive bulk
to stop the brown's descent, crooning encouragingly all the while. **
Tell Orlaith we are escorting him to the Weyr. His wings look bad,**
Lenala said, inspecting the injured dragon Vilarth was now supporting.
She wasn't a dragonhealer but she had seen plenty of
injuries to have some sort of idea how severe they were.

Knowing Vilarth might have to help and stay to control the brown,
Rhosyn didn?t expect her back for some time, if at all. Once the wing
had gotten itself in order to close ranks, she continued on,
monitoring the messages and reports coming through her queen as well
as using her flamethrower to get any stray clumps she could reach.

Gormth and Im're continued their vigil behind the remaining queens, ready
to step in where they were needed.
