Y'gel paced in his weyr for more than a candlemark before he finally
decided he would visit her. He made his way down a familiar path into
the lower caverns. Even then he still wasn't sure what he wanted
really. But then he realized he was just being silly. She was his
friend after all. She'd given him a great deal of support when he had
been so lost.
He knocked on her door.
Eorail set down the shirt she was mending and stood to answer the
door, wondering who it could be. The list of possible visitors this
time of the evening was pretty short so she wasn't terribly surprised
to see Y'gel standing outside her door. "Come in," she smiled.
"Hello Eorail," he dropped a kiss on her cheek as he ducked through the
door. "How have you been?" In fact he couldn't really recall the last
time he'd visited her. But he did remember how she liked the little
cinnamon sweets and he'd brought a box with him. He held it out with a
flourish.
"Thank you," she accepted the box with an almost childlessly bright
smile. "Oh, I these are my favorites," she added when she peeked
inside the box.
"Come in and sit, will you? I'll get some tea." With that, she made
her way into her quarters' small kitchenette and, setting the box down
- after firmly deciding she'd indulge later and -not- immediately
stuff a candy into her mouth like a child, she began making some tea.
"I've been keeping busy and can't complain. Except that I haven't seen
nearly enough of you lately. How are you?"
"Doing well," he smiled as she bustled. She had so much restless
energy. Not for the first time he was thankful for the sight of her
golden hair falling in waves down her back to her waist. Not the dark
tresses of Lira or Briata. "Though I did have a bad day yesterday. At
least that doesn't happen often anymore."
With that, she stopped what she was doing, a concerned frown creasing
her forehead. "Why didn't you come?" She hated for him to hurt so, he
was such a good man. She tried her best to offer comfort and
distraction, whether he needed an ear to listen or more. "Are you
alright?"
His eyes gentled. She was such a good sort."Oh you know me. I was busy
most of the day and then it got late and I was feeling sorry for
myself." He crooked the corner of his mouth at her. "I'll be fine. How
are things going for you my dear?"
After regarding Y'gel for a moment or two, Eorail went back to
preparing the tea as she replied, "Well, sometimes I think that you
dragonriders sit around and rip holes in you clothing on purpose. It's
difficult to credit how many things I spend a day mending otherwise."
She grinned, a teasing light in her eyes that did not quite cover the
concern there. "It might serve you all right if you had to walk around
with holes in your trousers for a while."
He chuckled and walked up behind her. His arms snaked around her waist
as she worked and he nuzzled her neck. "We just want to keep you
around."
"I just bet," Eorail replied archly, though she couldn't help the
smile that took over her face as he held her close. She tilted her
head a bit to give him better access to her neck and sighed happily at
the feeling of his mustache tickling her skin.
After a moment she turned in his arms to face him and wrapped her own
arms around his neck, leaning back slightly to look at him. "I -have-
missed you," she murmured, smiling into his eyes.
He felt a pang of regret at disappointing her and held her close
against him. "I'm sorry," he said simply. He wasn't going to add how
busy he was. They were all busy with their lives and if you couldn't
make time for those you cared about then it was your own fault. He
dipped his head to give her a gentle kiss. "I've missed you too."
Accepting and deepening the kiss, Eorail hummed happily in the back of
her throat. When they pulled apart, she asked, "Want to make up for
lost time? We can have tea later," she added with a mischievous grin,
though an entirely different sort of light glinted in her eyes as she
looked up at Y'gel.
"I'd never hesitate at that offer," he growled and swept her up in his
arms. He knew exactly where they were going and what they were going
to do when they got there.
