Weddings were splendid events to Sinla. Sometimes they were the
crowning of a successful match she had made between fellow Holders,
sometimes they were an opportunity to talk to people she wouldn't
normally interact with. Oh, sure, it was wonderful for the happy
couple as well, but Sinla was a practical woman when it came to these
matters. Today it was about working the room, chatting with folks of
rank wherever she could. And so, after working her way through the
gathered people with a subtle movement from one conversation to the
next, she came up to her Lord Holder and his wife. "Lord Zathris, Lady
Benani," she greeted them with her most winning smile and a respectful
curtsy.
"Do you need to sit down?" Zathris spoke just before Sinla approached
them. He turned to the young woman and smiled at her, then inclined
his head. "Good day, Sinla."
Benani smiled at her husband. "Yes," she said feeling a bit of an ache
of tiredness beginning. The babies had been sent back to the nursery
with their nurse just a few moments prior and she was looking forward
to the rest of the festivities. She took her husbands arm for support
as they turned. "Sinla," she smiled and inclined her head to
acknowledge the curtsy. "How nice to see you."
"Good day to you both as well, my Lord and Lady, it is my pleasure,"
Sinla smiled brightly at them both. "How very kind of you to grace my
brother's wedding with your presence. Are you enjoying the feast?"
"Yes, of course." Though Zathris had to wonder if the bride was
enjoying it. She didn't look very happy. "Glad to see your brother wed
finally?"
Benani looked expectantly at Sinla hoping for Chupsin's sake his
family approved the match.
"Oh, certainly, my Lord. I think he found himself a very suitable
match in darling Alivya, don't you agree?" Sinla surely wouldn't
confide in Zathris and Benani when it came to her reservations about
her brother's bride.
"Well, I think we are all very happy to see our Chupsin finally
settled." Benani hadn't really met the young woman other than in
passing. "Perhaps you will bring her around for the monthly tea after
they return from their wedding trip. We can become acquainted." Benani
was in the habit of hosting a tea for craftsmen and minor holders'
wives. It was her way of keeping her ear open to any issues within the
Hold. Women _would_ talk about anything bothering them when they got
into a group.
"I suppose he did." Zathris honestly didn't know the girl so he really
wasn't the one to ask about that. He glanced over at the bride and
hoped that she would be less shy once she wasn't the center of
attention. "That sounds like a splendid idea, Benani."
"I would be happy to introduce her," Sinla replied pleasantly. Maybe
with the right tutoring, Alivya could make at least some kind of
lasting impression there. Even if her brother hadn't chosen the kind
of woman she had wanted for him, maybe she could help Alivya become a
little more appealing herself. "We haven't had much time amongst
ourselves, but she seems to be a very pleasant young lady. Anyway, I
should probably go check if there is anything I can do for them. It
was so very nice catching up with you both!"
"And you Sinla," Benani smiled and nodded at the woman. "I'm a little
tired Zathris," she turned to her husband. "If you wouldn't mind, I'd
like to excuse myself from the rest of the party."
