Briata

Briata

Gelira knocked on the door, anxious to visit with Briata and Brigel once
again.

"Come in." Briata hadn't locked the door to the weyr - she didn't
really feel a need to. She looked up and smiled as she saw who it was
had come to visit. "Gelira, hello. How are you?"

"I'm good," Gelira replied as she entered. Walking right up to Briata,
a smile on her face. "How are you and little Brigel today?" Gelira was
enjoying the visit with Briata and her new baby brother.

"We're doing fine." Briata shifted the baby so that Gelira could see
him better. "He's staying awake longer." As babies tended to do when
they got a little older.

Gelira grinned as she moved closer, leaning in closer to Brigel. "Hi
baby brother," she said happily as she rubbed her hand on his head.
"How are _you_ doing?" Gelira's voice had changed into an almost
sing-song fashion as she talked with Brigel. Sitting down in a chair,
she smiled at Briata. "I'm so happy you're both doing well."

Brigel's eyes focused on Gelira and a smile tickled the sides of his
mouth. He wriggled a bit, then settled down as Briata cradled him.
"He's getting big." She commented as she lightly tapped his nose.
"How are you doing?"

"I'm good," Gelira replied. She really felt as though not much was
happening in her life at the moment.

Briata nodded and then her brow furrowed. She shifted the child who
made a raspberry sound, then stared up at the ceiling at who knew
what. "Have you talked to your father lately?"

"I see him every day," Gelira relied with a smile, "though some days
all we talk about is work. Why, do you need me to get him for you?"

"Oh,thank you but no." Briata shook her head, tendrils of ebony
playing over her face. "I was just...curious."

"Okay," Gelira replied. Uncertain of what to say next to Briata, she
looked to Brigel. "May I hold him?"

"Of course." Briata shifted the baby again, this time to pass him
over to his big sister. "Have you spoken with him today yet?"

Gelira accepted Brigal with a smile, bouncing him slightly over her
knee. "Who?" She asked, then added, "Father?"

"Yes." Briata smiled at the sight of her son with his sister. She
was very glad that Gelira had taken a shine to him rather than viewing
him, and herself for that matter, without any sort of malice.

Gelira waited to see what else Briata wanted to say. When she didn't
add any more details, Gelira shrugged and held little Brigel in her
arms. Her face lit up with a smile as she gazed at the baby, her
brother. "You are so cute," Gelira said, her voice changing into a
playful, silly tone as she talked to the baby.

"We've decided to weyrmate." Briata added as she watched the two
siblings bond. They made a sweet picture and she wished she could
capture it. Her drawing skills, however, were more honed toward
designs rather than people.

"Oh," Gelira looked up from Brigel quickly, her eyes open wide. She
paused for a moment, thinking about how she felt about things. Then
Gelira smiled at Briata. "I'm glad, for you both and for little Brigel
here. It's wonderful to have both of your parents around you all the
time growing up." She missed her own mother, but had such fond
memories spent in their weyr together. "Besides, father needs someone
to share his life with. That is the kind of man he is." Gelira wished
for the same in her life someday, a man to love her the same way her
father loved, deeply and with all his heart.

Briata relaxed. Gelira had certainly been nice to her and she'd never
shown any jealousy or ill will toward her. However, weyrmating was a
serious thing and she had to admit she'd been a little worried. "I'm
glad. And you're right, he does." So did she.

"I miss him, though, when I'm living in the candidate barracks."
Gelira gave a sort of sad, wistful look. Life had always been good in
their weyr. It had been an adjustment when she had been required to
move to the candidate quarters.

"You are always welcome to visit." Briata pointed out. Brigel opened
his mouth and let out a sqwak, so Briata reached for him. "That's his
warning that he's getting hungry."

Gelira handed the baby back to Briata. "I think that's my cue to leave
as well. I'm glad I got to visit today. I look forward to seeing you
both again soon." Gelira stood, smiling at Brigel and reaching a hand
out to place on Briata's shoulder. "Make him happy. That's all I ask."
