Notes: Follows On the beach
Two lazy glorious days in the sun and the surf. The weather had been
perfect and warm the entire time and the turquoise water almost bath
temperature.
D'ale sat on the beach blanket next to his raven haired beauty and
stared out at the waves while she napped in the shade. His short leave
was almost up and soon they'd have to return to the snow and ice of
the far south.
"Dolphins," he said as two leaped out of the water and spun furiously
before cutting the waves again. He couldn't help but laugh. "Come on,"
he touched her shoulder. "Let's play with the dolphins."
"Ooh, they're such a lovely creatures!" Yanley replied. She got up to
a sitting position and shielded her eyes from the sun.
"I don't have much experience about them," she admitted. "But Golansin
took me to dolphin hall once, so they could take a look at me and say
if there was some physical deformity..." her voices trailed down. The
memory wasn't the most pleasant one, although the trip itself had been
great experience. Why did everything turn back to her infertility?
She didn't want anything to ruin this short time with D'ale, lest her
bitterness.
He stood and pulled her up into his arms. "There is _nothing_ deformed
about you in any way and Golansin was a fool. He still is." D'ale
meant every word from the bottom of his heart. "Now," he said. "Let's
ignore him and go play with dolphins." Before he could say another
word a giant splash behind them and the sheer joy in his link told him
Torerath had gotten there first.
"Well, that's something you don't see everyday! Dragon frolicing with
dolphins," Yanley laughed.
D'ale laughed with her. "Torerath always loved playing with the
dolphins when we lived at River Bluff. Come on," he said grabbing her
hand and heading toward the water.
Yanley followed eagerly. They waded into the deeper water and the
dolphins came to them. She squalled a bit when they sprayed her with
the seawater.
"Playyyy!" the dolphin whistled and rolled over.
"They like it when you rub them," he said dropping her hand and
running his hands over the dolphins exposed belly.
Yanley nodded and followed his example with the other one. The dolphin
twisted a bit under her hands and send series of clicks on her
direction.
"Babee...tiny, tiny babee" she squalled.
"What?" Yanley asked, not understanding and not sure if she had heard it right.
"What?" D'ale said almost in unison. He held still to see if the
dolphin would repeat its statement.
"Babee...." She nodded then stood on her tail dancing away from them
before diving back under the waves.
"But I thought..." he said almost in awe. She'd told him she was
infertile. That was the whole reason her husband had divorced her in
the first place. "Yanley?" He turned to her with brilliant eyes.
"I..I don't know, I don't understand. It was not supposed...it's not
possible..I'm not, can't be," Yanley was maundering in her confusion
"Are you sure?" she asked the dolphin.
"Yess. you babee, me babee too, " she was obviously one very happy sea mammal.
Oh, how she had once longed to hear those words, but not, things were
different and Yanley didn't know what think. She had always wanted a
baby. She suddenly just burst to tears.
"Oh sweetheart," he wrapped his arms around her. "It's going to be
okay. Let's take you to a healer just to be sure. There is a Master at
Sunstone. I know him very well and he'll be discreet."
"This is crazy, I always wanted a baby so much and I thought I
couldn't ever..." She was happy and scared at the same time.
He cupped the side of her face as he smiled a silly grin. "It's
wonderful," he said before he kissed her soundly.
Yanley fought to get herself back to control. His kiss actually
helped. One thing she was sure of, if she really was pregnant, there
was no might in whole Pern that could make her give up this unexpected
gift.
So sure of her character was he that the question of parentage never
even arose in his mind. There was not the slightest doubt the child
was his. But he did see enormous mountains in her way. He looked
deeply into her dark eyes. "We should get you to the healer."
"Yes," She agreed. "I can't go to Amber Hill's healers."
"Well Sunstone isn't far at all. There is a Master there who I know
from Dragonsfall."
"Sounds good to me," Yanley agreed. Frankly, she was bit scared now.
