Seeking help

Writers: Bree, Victoria Voss
Date Posted: 15th January 2006

Characters: U'val, Garima
Description: Garima seeks U'val's help in dealing with her mother
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 9, day 1 of Turn 3
Notes: This follows "How do you Handle a Mother?" .. sorry it's a little
out of order.

Garima sighed as she left Arima's quarters. Her usually rational Mother was
being so very not. The greenrider headed for the weyrbowl looking for
someone, anyone, to help her out. Her mother was friendly, and more than
friendly, with enough riders that there should be someone who could help.
Someone she couldn't blame. * That leaves J'an out. * Garima thought to
herself. J'an was the first person Marza asked to become a candidate, and
the Weyrling master had not only not said no, but had told the young vintner
how to go about doing it.

* Maybe there's someone in the Dining Hall. * Garima turned and headed in
that direction.

Luckily for Garima, U'val was seated at a table just inside the dining
cavern, sipping at a mug of klah with his finished dinner plate pushed to
the side.

"U'val!" Garima strode over the the bluerider as soon as she spotted him.
_He_ would be a help! "How are you? How are you dong? Are you busy?"

U'val raised an eyebrow as Garima slid in across from him. "Not at all,
Garima. Is there something on your mind?"

Garima inhaled a deep breath, "It's Arima," she let the breath out, "She's
having a hard time with Marza being a candidate. I think she's going back
to when my Father died." Garima looked down at the table, her voice
lowering slightly, "She says it's my fault that Marza's not going to be a
vintner." The greenrider looked up at U'val, "I'm worried about her, she
burned her hand with some hot Klah and she won't even let me look at it."

Sighing, U'val set his klah down and leaned forward. "I know she's upset,
Garima... I wish I could tell you it's something that will go away, but it
will take time. What's important is that _you_ know that nothing Marza chose
is your fault."

"I know," Garima looked up at U'val, "I _know_ it's not my fault. I didn't
have any problem with her becoming a vintner. It was her own idea.
But I'm worried about my Mother. You know how hard she took it when
Father
died. Well ... I think she might be going there again. " Garima reached a
pleading hand out to U'val, "I was hoping that maybe you could talk to her?"

"Of course, Garima." U'val took her hand and squeezed it. "I'll always be
here for your mother, and I'll always be here for you."

"Thanks so much U'val!" The relief was obvious on Garima's face, "I'm
worried about her, but she won't let me help."

Raising her hand to his lips, U'val gave the back of her fingers a gallant
kiss. "You know me... I'm stubborn. Your mother doesn't have a chance
against me."

"Thank you U'val!" Garima squeezed U'val's hand in gratitude. "I really
don't want her to cause an issue for Marza!"

"Any time. Go take care of Marza... I'll take care of your mother."
