"Ah! And just _what_ do you think you're doing feeding _your_ dinner to Wort, hmm?" Cinale asked, jabbing a finger at the guilty-looking Hallsecond.
Daigoro smiled guiltily. "Wort likes fish?"
"Wort likes everything you like, apparently," he told him as she approached, trying to hold back a grin - and not succeeding very well. Fey, who was perched serenely on Cinale's shoulder, suddenly gave a happy chirp upon seeing her bronze friend and took wing. The cook watched as she floated down to sit beside Wort, cocking her head inquiringly at the morsel he was eating.
"Yes, it seems so," Daigoro replied, smiling to cover the fact that he was feeding his fish to Wort for the opposite reason... "You know, your fish is the best I've tasted yet."
She eyed him suspiciously as she sat down on the bench. "Really."
"Yes. What herb did you use? It's fantastic," he said with an innocent smile.
"Well, _I_ didn't do anything to the fish. A few of my new kitchen girls were learning the ropes today and I let them handle a few of the main courses. Why?" Her suspicious frown deepened. "What herb does it taste like?"
"Umm... well..." Truth was he hadn't even touched the fish yet! Just the smell of fish was enough to make him lose his appetite. "I can't tell, that's why I was asking. Here," he said helpfully, holding out a fork for her. "Why don't you taste it and tell me what it was?"
She took it, stared at the morsel on the end, and popped it into her mouth. And regretted it. Her eyes burned as she chewed as quickly as she could and swallowed as quickly as she could without fear of choking.
"Oh for all the sharding -" Cinale grabbed his glass of water, klah, wine - whatever it was - and gulped it down to get rid of the burning, sticky sensation in her throat.
"So... Can you tell what the spice is?" he asked, trying not to laugh at her reaction. Of course, Daigoro had that reaction every time he ate fish.
She made a face at his plate. "Not one I recognize! They probably thought to be creative and make their own mixture of herbs - and spices!"
After chortling a question to Wort, who replied in a reassuring tone, Fey reached out and snagged a juicy tidbit with her claw and began to nibble on it with great relish. Apparently she liked it.
Cinale sighed. "I hope the girls didn't infect all the fish like that. I don't think they did...."
"Perhaps they knew this one was for me," he laughed.
Unable to help herself, she joined in his laughter. "I'm sorry, hon,"
she grinned, wiping a stray tear from her eye. "Let the flits finish that and let me whip you up something _decent_ to eat, hmm?"
"Please, no fish," chuckled as he watched Wort devour chunk of the spicy fish.
"No, no fish. I think I have some stew I can heat up for you." Cinale rose and smiled at him before heading towards the hearth to add more wood to the flames.
"Do you have any more of those delicious cookies you sent with Cat the other day?" he asked hopefully.
"Mm-hmm. They're on the counter in the basket. But you're not just having cookies for dinner, you know. You'll be back in here at midnight, I can promise you that!"
"That's not a bad prospect," he smiled as he reached for a cookie. "She's a good girl, that Cat."
"That she is." Gently she set the bowl of stew down in front of him, rolling her eyes tolerantly as she saw him begin to nibble on one of the cookies.
"In fact, I thought I would give her a little present since she'd been so attentive." He finished off the cookie in one big bite. "Fieayz has asked me to give away a couple of Arva's eggs and I thought I would give her one."
"Well that's certainly nice of you, hon," Cinale smiled before she grabbed her own cookie. "I don't think she's know what to do with herself with such a gift!"
Daigoro smiled. "I am just want to give the egg to someone who would appreciate the little creature and love it like it should be loved."
"And she will, if I'm any judge of character." She grinned slightly, taking the seat next to him and thoughtfully began nibbling at her cookie.
"Well, considering the amount of time you willingly spend with me, I'm not sure I can trust your judgement, my dear," he said with a wink.
"We've had this discussion before, hon," she grinned at him after she'd swallowed. "You don't give yourself enough credit."
"Careful, girl, or the praise might give me a big head. It's bad enough what your excellent cooking is doing to my stomach!" He rubbed his belly for emphasis.
She waved a hand dismissively, her eyes lit with mischief. "You're stomach is just fine - just like your head, which is decently sized, I might add."
"You call _this_ fine?" he asked, grabbing a fistful of of stomach. "Between your cooking and my desk work, I'll be rolling around the Hall like a keg within a couple turns."
"Oh, I doubt that," she laughed, patting his hand. "You have more sense then that." She cocked an eyebrow at him. "Well, at least I hope you do!"
"I would have considered myself a sensible man until you came along," he smiled. "With your cooking," he added.
A faint smile curved her lips as she glanced up into his eyes. "Of course."
