Location: Emerald Falls Hold
Date: month 12, day 13 of Turn 6
She was happy that she'd been permitted to foster again. The first
thing she'd been told was that Trewlin and Dareera had often asked of
her. Both were currently in foster care with other families. However,
neither was succeeding. Trewlin was back to being difficult and
Dareera had gone silent for her new family.
In the five months since Lisadi had left, both children had needed to
be moved between foster mothers as things had just not worked out.
Lisadi was given the option of taking the children back. Yet, to her,
it wasn't _her_ decision, but rather theirs.
Taking a deep breath, she entered the room where Dareera was with her
current foster mother.
"Finally," the woman huffed when Lisadi entered. "I thought you'd
never come." She turned to the girl who was sitting quietly behind the
chair.
"Get over here girl. Someone is here to see you." Lisadi was rather
taken aback by the woman's demeanor.
"They always send me the difficult ones," the lady huffed. She moved
behind the chair and emerged a moment later with a little girl in tow.
The little eyes looked up and met Lisadi's. Her face seemed frozen in
surprise for a moment. Dareera blinked.
"Sadi?" she asked as she choked back a cry. Then in a second the
little girl was running full throttle towards Lisadi. Lisadi had
barely had time to get down before Dareera all but knocked her over.
"Well, I never," the other woman said. "They said you'd take her.
Well, good luck." And with that the lady left.
Lisadi pulled back, wiping away her tears and smiling. "Do you want to
come back with me?" She asked the little girl. Through her own tears,
Dareera nodded her head against Lisadi's chest, unwilling to let go of
the woman she'd come to care about more than anyone else since the
loss of her own family.
----
The next visit was harder. The boy sat in a corner, turned away from
her. The family he was with had said he'd done nothing but cause
trouble or skulk in silence. Lisadi remembered that boy, but Trewlin
had come so far in the time they'd had.
Seeing him now, hunched over in a chair, looking like he was
protecting himself, she wished she had never left. Her heart went out
to him. The past was the past and there was nothing she could do about
that now.
"Trewlin," she said softly. At first he didn't respond. Lisadi moved
closer, limping slightly. "Trewlin."
This time the boy's head jerked up and he simply stared at her.
"What are _you_ doing here?" He growled in her direction, though he
couldn't take his eyes off of her.
"I've come back. To stay, _for good_." She emphasized.
He snorted and turned his eyes away. "Yeah right," he muttered.
"Everyone leaves. You'll be gone again soon."
Lisadi moved closer, bending down to try and look him in the eye.
"I won't be gone. I'm sorry I left. There was...well...unfinished
business I had to deal with. It's done now. It will _never_ take me
away from here...away from you again. That is, if you even want to
come with me again. You don't have to. The choice is yours."
She touched his arm and he jerked away. Lisadi sighed and felt tears
well up in her eyes.
"I understand." She rose. "I will always be your friend though
Trewlin. _Always_." She turned to go.
The young boy lifted his head and watched her, his jaw opening
slightly but no sound coming out. He swallowed. He looked around. His
lip quivered.
"I'll give you _one_ more chance." He stated, causing her to stop.
"But _just_ one more," he was biting his lower lip as he waited.
Lisadi turned. "That's fair. I did after all, give you a second
chance. One more chance is all I'll need Trewlin. I promise you that."
Her little family was whole again. Almost. But whether Sarban still
wanted to be part of that was still a mystery. She had walked away
from them all, sudden, and unexpected. It had been foolish, but she
couldn't dwell on the past now. Now she would make a future for her
and for the two children who had given their trust to her once more.
