Lenala

Lenala

After the fellis wore off and she woke up again, the Weyrwoman was not
happy. She needed more numbweed. Where was Gelira? Where was the healer
woman? WHERE WAS EVERYONE!

}:Vilarth, mine needs to tell yours something:{ Orlaith sent, knowing her rider was
not happy but there was nothing she could do about it. As it was, the woman's pain
was coming through to her queen and it was making Orlaith hurt.

Vilarth relayed the message to her rider. Lenala started walk towards
her weyr. She wasn't so sure she wanted to meet Rhosyn yet, but
couldn't dismiss the summon.

Gelira had been on her way to check on the Weyrwoman once again. She
entered her Weyr with a soft knock as she called out. "It's Gelira,"
This was the same routine she'd been using each time she arrived so
that Rhosyn wouldn't wonder who had come, that is if she was even
awake. Gelira had checked on her a few times, but she'd been fast
asleep. Rest was good. It would help her heal sooner.

Lenala came just after the dragonhealer. "You called for me, Rhosyn?"

Awake and grumpy and hurting, she barked orders as soon as they
came in. "Gelira, I need some water and numbweed or something.
Did the healer leave some of that painkiller stuff nasty I drank?"
Turning her head, she squeaked and ground her teeth when her skin
stuck to the sheets and it pulled as she moved. "Lenala, I am not going
to be able to do much of anything for at least a sevenday. I'll be confined
to quarters so you'll be taking over. If you have any questions, you're
more than welcome to come and ask, but I won't be able to leave here.
And you are *not* to tell anyone why. If anyone asks, I'm recuperating
from the Flight and leave it at that."

"What exactly did happen? I had to take Vilarth away from Weyr and I just
got back," Lenala asked, walking further in and looking Rhosyn curiously. She
just heard some vague rumors.

Gelira obliged the Weyrwoman, refilling her water and bringing her numbweed
and the fellis the healers had left for her. "Here Rhosyn, this should help some
at least," Gelira set the glass down, still holding the numbweed. "Do you need
assistance with this?" Gelira figured she would, but wasn't about to touch the
Weyrwoman without her permission.

"Please. Um...give me the fellis first so maybe it won't hurt so bad when I move
so you can get the numbweed on. I'm sticking to the sheets. You know what, better
ask Solieira to have someone change my sheets tonight when I try and take a cool
bath. We'll have to numbweed again after that. ShARDIT!" Her voice raised in volume
when her skin half peeled off as she moved. It took her a moment to calm down.

}:That hurt! Do I need to call the healer?:{ Orlaith was quite concerned and the gold's
head was easy to spot where the weyr opened onto her couch area.

**No I'm fine. Gelira is going to fix it** Sighing, Rhosyn decided
this was going to be miserable. "Umm...I went out to the Flight straight from sleeping
and apparently I was out there in my sleeping garb, which isn't much of
anything. And the sun decided it would scorch everything it could." She
hoped Lenala wouldn't laugh in her face. She wouldn't wish this on anyone.
"I don't want the Weyr to know. We've got too much else going on."

Gelira listened to the details, not saying a word. Rhosyn had told her
_some_ of what had happened, but now she understood the full extent
of the Weyrwoman's pain.

"I was once badly burned by the sun," she said quietly as she prepared
the fellis. "It was _not_ a pleasant experience." She took the mug
with the fellis and waited beside Rhosyn's bed. "Are you ready for it
now?" she asked, wondering if perhaps she wanted to talk to the other
goldrider before the fellis started to effect her.

She found herself watching the pair of women. **To be a goldrider,**
she mused quietly to herself. She'd seen so much in the Weyr over the
Turns, yet nothing was as impressive as the Golden dragons themselves.
Shaking her head a bit to focus on her task at hand, she chided
herself, **No gold dragon would choose me.** Yet, still there was a
small glimmer of wonder at the thought. So far, Gelira had not Impressed
at the hatchings she'd stood for. At this point she was just hoping she
_would_ Impress before it became too late.

"Sunburned?" Lenala said and couldn't help it, a snicker escaped her despite
her attempt not to laugh out loud.

"Aye please..." She moved aside so Gelira could reach, not worried about
her nakedness. Her skin was slick where it was peeling and wet. And Rhosyn
was beginning to feel cold. Shivering, she tried to focus. "Yes Lenala, I was
sunscorched. Now you're going to have to do all of my duties for now. Not just
the Wing. Do you understand that? You're the Weyrwoman."

"Don't worry, I run every decision by you, like always," Lenala
replied, still giggle in her voice.

"No. I'm sick. My fever will affect my thinking. You're on your own babe
unless something serious goes down.? Maybe this could be Lenala's test.
"If you need him, the Weyrleader will be there to back you up."

"Oh," was only thing Lenala got out of her mouth. Suddenly she didn't
feel like laughing anymore. She mulled it over in her head. If she kept things
like there were now, she should be on safe ground. There was no reason why
she should change the current drills or Fall formations. More ambitious goldrider
would probably used the opportunity to test her own ideas, but that was not Lenala.
Unless something unexpected happened, then she just had to cope with it.

"It's okay, you're going to do fine. This is what you've been training for right?"
Rhosyn was trying to be encouraging, but she hurt so much that it was hard to
think of anyone but herself.

"Yes, I have," Lenala said, moving backwards so Gelira could tend Rhosyn.

Having taken in all the talk between the two, Gelira moved forward to
adminster the fellis and begin to apply the numbweed to Rhosyn.
**Wouldn't it be interesting to be in their place,** she mused as she
worked, **Running a Weyr, riding a Gold.** Gelira had to shake the
thoughts from her head for such things were clearly beyond her reach.
If she were lucky, she would finally be chosen by a green, but not a
gold. "Let me know if I'm hurting you," she said quietly to Rhosyn
as she applied the numbweed.

Silently thinking to herself **Faranth make it stop** over and over until
Gelira's numbweed began to take effect, Rhosyn found herself wishing
she could just sleep through this whole thing. "When you're done, go get
Reeva. I think my fever's coming on."
