):He needs your help:{

G'wen stopped and blinked at the words in his head. **Who are you
talking about, Neath?** Already he was out of breath trying to catch
up with E'naer, who had left the pending gold Flight scene back in
Tes' weyr like a man on fire. He assumed she meant his lover, but why
would he need help?

}:No, not Ellispeth's, Onnyth's lifemate's friend. He's in pain, he
doesn't know what to do, and he doesn't belong in her weyr right now.
Help him, help Onyth's.:{ Her mind voice commanded him to move back to
the scene he was all too happy to flee.

As he trotted back, G'wen shouted, "Enaer, help me!" over his
shoulder. He was simply too small to deal with Daran if he got too
upset or dangerous.

"What?" E'naer twirled around so fast that Feral on his shoulder squaked a
protest. His intention was to follow J'nev to see he got out safely and in
time.

"Help me! Daran needs to get out of Tes' weyr_before_the Flight!" He waved
his hand at his lover before disappearing from E'naer's view by going
around the curve of the queen's weyr.

"Oh, Scorch it, he's not a rider! Good thinking, G'wenny," E'naer cursed and
followed the smaller greenrider. He had completely forgotten the harper.

For his part, Daran looked merely baffled by the behavior of his lover, and
the unwelcomed attention of the bronze and brown riders towards her. It was
a relief to see the tiny greenrider coming back, and the Weyrlingmaster 3rd
right on his heels.

"I...uh, what's going on?" He tried to smile but the tremble in his voice
betrayed his anxiety.

"Come with us." Not waiting for an answer, G'wen took him by the elbow.
"You shouldn't be here, you need to be with us." He looked to E'naer for
help.

"It's Onnyth, she's Blooding her kill, and things are about to heat up,"
E'naer said with gentle tone and, placing a hand on his back, firmly guided
him towards the door.

"Right...right." She said this would happen, Daran just hadn't thought it
would happen this soon. In a daze he let himself be led to the green riders'
weyr.

The large green he reconized right away, and the delicate one he had seen
around the weyrlings. She must have been the tall greenrider directing him
in. Trying, and failing to smile at him, Daran let his eyes drop to the
floor. He caught the tiny greenrider staring at him with concern.

"You need to sit down, Daran."

The Harper didn't protest when G'wen pushed him into a chair.

"Pour him a drink, will you G'wen?" E'naer asked eyeing the harper with
concern. Daran seemed dazed, no doupt Onnyth's Mating lust was affecting
him. Shells, E'naer could feel it. It wasn' t as strong as when Eillispeht
was Rising. He still wanted to strip G'wan and get him to his bed.

A drink sounded like just the right idea. G'wen brought over the
entire bottle of whiskey. Nudging the harper, he said, "here, just
neck it down. You won't feel any pain that way."

As the harper began to do just that, the small lad raised an eyebrow
to his lover, hoping that had been the right thing to do. Like E'naer
he too was feeling he effects of the gold's Flight just beginning. In
fact, he was feeling a higher than normal effect, thanks to Neath and
her annoying fascination with all things gold.

"If he passes out, we can save the explanations for tomorrow. He'll
have a headache thought," E'naer whispered to G'wen.

"Okay." G'wen reached up to brush his lips against E'naer's.

"Can't things just work out the way they do in the Hold?" Daran
blurted out. G'wen jumped back as the harper went on. "All I want to
do is love Teseara, why do I have to share her like this? It's
brutal!"

"This isn't hold, this is Weyr. It's the prize we pay for having dragons as
lifemates. It isn't easy to be a dragonrider's partner," E'naer said as
gently as he could, when all he wanted was to knock him out and proceed
with G'wen.

He didn't have long to wait. Head slung low, the effects of the
whiskey taking effect, Daran mummbled, "all I want to do is love her.
I love Tes," and he gripped the front of G'wen's tunic gently, holding
the boy's face close to his own. "You go and tell her I love her,
okay? She'll listen to you..." The grip loosened, and Daran's head
slumped forward.

G'wen straightened his tunic and eyed E'naer. "I think he's passed out."

"Oh, good. Let's put him on the coutch, cover him with blanket and..."
he really didn't need to finish the sentance, a meaningful look
towards his bed was enough. Even Feral wasn't bothering them, she had
gone out.

G'wen pulled his mouth to one side, a thoughtful look in his dark
eyes. "It must be hard, growing up one way and expecting love, like
Daran here. And then our way, like it is in the Weyr, growing up
another way, never_really_expecting to be loved except by your dragon.
Not really loved, y'know?"

"Yes," E'naer replied. "Although I kind of fall between, being hold
bred but been most of my life in Weyr."

"What d'you think then?" G'wen's voice was so low it wasn't much more
than a whisper. "Have you ever been in love?" He turned his dark eyes
up to E'naer's gaze.

"Yes..." E'naer replied with a far away look on his eyes. His first
love had answered to his affections with a fist. No wonder he had
commitment issues.

G'wen fidgeted, knowing that far away look wasn't for him. And in that
moment, he felt down, knowing E'naer was more interested in pinning
him to the bed than in being in love with him. He sat on the edge of
the bed, waiting to be pushed down when what he really wanted was
something else.
