Beginnings and Endings

Writers: Ames, Chelle
Date Posted: 7th June 2013

Characters: Sarban, Lisadi
Description: The two of them go to the Turnover celebrations together
Location: Emerald Falls Hold
Date: month 13, day 29 of Turn 6

He had gotten himself ready and was heading out of his quarters to go
pick Lisadi up. He knew they wouldn't be able
to dance very long due to her leg pain, but that was just as well.
Between the food, music, and everyone he had to greet,
he probably wouldn't have much time for that anyway.

She was ready and waiting. Turn's End was a favorite time of hers. She
had fond memories of the last Turn's End she had celebrated with
Sarban. Things were definitely better between them now then when she'd
first returned, but she wasn't expecting anything big to go on between
them. She was hoping that they would just get to enjoy the evening
together and see how things went between them. She sighed as she
looked one last time in the small looking glass. She wished her life
with Sarban was already different. If she hadn't left when she had,
they most likely would be married already or close to it.

"Perhaps one day soon," she murmured to herself, less certain than she
had been in the past, but more hopeful than when she'd first returned.
Turning, she headed to her door and opened it, knowing Sarban would be
there any moment.

And there he stood, with his hand raised to knock. Caught, as it were, he
stood there looking for a moment before he brought it back down. "Ah so I
guess you're ready then?"

She laughed lightly. "I am. Thank you for coming to get me," Lisadi
added. "I'm looking forward to celebrating Turn's End with you,"
**Especially because I wasn't sure I ever would again,** she added
silently. "Shall we?"

"Well sure." Since this event included folk from other places, Sarban had
dressed up a bit more than usual, but his clothing was still comfortable and
casual, just better fabric. "I'm so hungry..." he said as they walked down the
corridor.

"Oh me too," Lisadi replied with a smile. "I've hardly eaten all day,
knowing there would be delicious delicacies worth waiting for this
evening." She was able to keep pace with Sarban as they walked, better
than she had before. Clearly the therapy she'd been doing _was_
helping, but she was also aware that others were walking around them.
She realized he must have slowed his own pace to make her feel more
comfortable. That made her heart skip as she thought of such a kind
courtesy. Almost from the moment they'd met, she'd known he was a good
man. Her heart still cared deeply for him. She only hoped over time he
would be able to feel the same way again about her, or let her go if
he couldn't. For now, she couldn't sever those ties herself. She
_wanted_ things to work between them.

Sarban led her to the Great Hall where the food was being served. Finding
a place to sit, he quietly began to eat, nodding at some of the holders who
passed by.

Lisadi joined him, sitting at the table and sampling all the delicious
foods that were presented to them. She watched the others moving about
around them, and her thoughts turned contemplative.

"I remember last Turn's End," she said quietly. Sarban had taken her
then. It had been her first ever Turn's End celebration and they had
danced most of the night away. Shortly after that things between them
had gotten more serious. Now, she honestly didn't know what was in the
future for the pair of them.

"It's an auspicious time-for beginnings and endings." Thinking about that,
Sarban looked up to see the harpers gearing up to start. Then Corowal made
his speech. "And here we go."

Lisadi sat and listened to the opening speeches being made. She heard
every word they said. One Turn was passing over. A new Turn beginning.
She felt as though it was the same mentality she had to have with her
life. All that had happened in the previous Turn, good and bad, was
behind her now, and she couldn't change it. What lay ahead of her was
a future that was of her making. She could make the decisions that
would lead her life the way she hoped it would go. She wanted to reach
out and take Sarban's hand during part of the speech about new
beginnings, but held back. Things were decent between them, but
nothing like the way they had come to love and care for each other.
She'd hurt him, and she didn't know if she could ever repair that hurt.

When all the formality was done and it was time for the dancing and carrying
on, Sarban leaned back in his seat. He had never really been much of a dancer
anyway. "So how are the children doing?"

_That_ was a topic she could discuss with ease.

"They are doing much better, thank you for asking. Dareera settled
right back in and with her uncle moved off, I'm all she has now. She's
taken to calling me mommy," Lisadi actually blushed a bit at this, "I
didn't have the heart to tell her not to, and since I've agreed to
keep them, the title fits. Trewlin," she paused here, thinking over
the boy, "has accepted that things are okay. He's hurt still though,
and more cautious with me than before if I go away for periods of
time." She frowned. "I wish, in so many ways, that I hadn't left
here." Lisadi ducked her head slightly lest she become too overcome
with emotion and cry. After a moment, she looked up, "but as this
celebration reminds us, the past is that...the past, and we cannot
change it. We can only move forward and make better decisions now."
She hadn't meant to get philosophical again, but it had just happened.

"Any sign of a craft or anything he might be interested in?" Sarban knew there
was time, but it was good to spot aptitude and channel it. Trewlin was a boy
who needed to be occupied.

"Definitely not harpering," she chuckled. Trewlin disliked his time in
Harper classes more than anything else. "He loves being outside the
most. He's either busy watching the animals, the workers, or playing

near the water. I don't think he's really thought about what he'd like
to do, but he's of a good age to begin trying things out." She looked
at him in thought. "Perhaps you could talk to him and even set up some
opportunities for him to try out some different crafts so he can
decide which he'd like to apprentice to."

"I guess I can. See if there's anything.." Maybe the lad would like to spend
some time with Aivorn or something. That was always a useful craft.

"That would be great Sarban. Thank you so much," Lisadi beamed at him
and gave his arm a squeeze. She was glad he had brought the subject
up. It would be good for Trewlin to experience some of the crafts to
help him decide what he wanted to do with his own life.
