Description: H'vack calls in the candidate to meet her and offer her some suggestions for the future
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 1, day 3 of Turn 7
With Orlaith having risen, H'vack knew it was time to really begin
working with the candidates himself, for soon many of them would be
weyrlings under him and not candidates any longer.
He had called Eirlira in to meet with him next. He wanted to get to
know her and see just how ready she was to Stand. He checked over the
list of things that were necessary before the eggs were laid while he
waited for the candidate to arrive.
Eirlira knocked on the door, her back straight with confidence. It was
easy enough to Impress men, she'd been doing it for turns. Allowing a
smile to pull her lips up, her posture became fluid and her eyes warm.
He noted her posture and demeanor instantly. H'vack was a good read of
character. She wasn't completely comfortable, but then again, who
_would_ be in this situation.
"Do come in, sit. I want to get to know all the candidates before the
eggs harden and hatch on the Sands. Come in. I'd like you to tell me
alittle about yourself and how you became a candidate," D'naz told her
with a friendly tone to his voice.
She sat, her every fluid motion speaking of sultry grace and
confidence. He was a man and only a man, therefore, far easier to
manipulate and control. "There's not much about me to tell." Her voice
was a soft purr. "I'm from Sunstone Sea Hold. My family is still
there." Her lips pulled up higher. "I came here and Rhosyn herself
made sure I was Searched."
He nodded, noting what she shared.
"That is all good. You've gotten the most pressing matters taken care
of. Being from a Hold, however, can be difficult for our new arrivals.
Have you had any trouble since your arrival? Have you learned about
the ways of the Weyr, so to speak?" H'vack was trying to be as
delicate, but it _was_ necessary for the holdbred to understand how
different life was for them once they chose a life in the Weyr. He
wasn't a man to hold back.
Expressive brows rose and she shifted in her seat, crossing one leg
over the other with ease. "No problems at all, Weyrlingmaster." She
tossed her unruly curls over her shoulder. "I'm learning the ways
quite well, actually. I find them quite to my liking."
H'vack nodded. With that out of the way, things could continue more
easily. It was one of his least favorite discussions to have with the
Holdbred.
"Good good. I see here that you are 19 turns. That is a good age to
Stand. There are a few things you must understand." He put the hide he
was looking at aside and clasping his hands in front of him, he looked
her straight in the eye. "I don't tolerate _any_, and I mean _any_
foolishness or disrespect from my candidates and my weyrlings. If you
follow direction and orders, you will do well and, I assure you,
become one of the best riders you can be. Do I make myself clear?"
H'vack had this talk with _all_ the candidates he met. They _had_ to
understand the order of things within the Weyr and he made sure, as
their first teacher, that they would follow the directions of their
leader without fail.
Was this man utterly blind? She was showing him a good bit of leg and
he'd not even looked. She swallowed her pique. She wasn't trying to be
foolish, shaffit. Why wasn't this working? She kept her expression
schooled into a sweet smile, but she was most annoyed at the fact that
her allure simply wasn't working with this man. Perhaps she was
loosing her touch. "Perfectly clear, Weyrlingmaster." Her eyes
flicked to his knots. He couldn't be a boy lover, could he? Faranth,
that would be just her luck, to be stuck with one of those...people.
H'vack gave a curt nod. Glancing back down at the hide. He _had_
noticed her behaviors, not that he would let her see that. He knew he
might have to keep an eye on this one during weyrlinghood. After that
her choices would be hers, but if she Impressed, _he_ was responsible
for her and her dragon during their training.
He glanced at her again. "Have you done any strength training?" He
inquired, noting that she was fit, but he didn't see the signs of one
who spent much time on strengthening activities.
She had to hide the pout forming on her lip and took a deep breath,
but then paused at H'vack's question. "Strength training?" Her brow
furrowed. "What are you talking about?"
"Lifting. Weights, rocks, balls," H'vack replied. "I encourage _all_
my candidates to start upper body strength training. I have a hide
here if you'd like the suggestions. Dealing with a dragon takes _alot_
of effort and you will need a strong upper body to toss the firestone.
It's not an easy task by any means." H'vack preferred sorting out the
weak from the strong early on. He _needed_ his future weyrlings to
understand just how much work was ahead of them.
The alluring smile that she had pasted on her face fell a little. They
wanted her do ruin her soft arms with muscle? But, that would make her
look manly! Her eyes flicked to the hide and then back to H'vack.
"Sure... I could use that." **When the sun gets as cold as between,
maybe.** "I'll be happy to start." She mustered up another smile,
suddenly confident that what ever heavy lifting that was needed, she
could find some silly stupid sot to handle it for her.
"Alright then," H'vack handed the hide over. "Once the eggs are hard,
we'll also be visiting them for the traditional touching. Since this
will be your first egg-touching, I'd like to go over a few rules. You
must walk carefully among the eggs as we _most_ definitely do not want
to damage them. We touch, lightly with our palms, the tops of the
eggs. It is believed that the dragons inside sense us and may use this
touching as a chance to choose their future rider. This is an
important time. You'll want to channel love and respect to the eggs
even in this early stage. Do you have any questions about this?"
**I already knew all that, you moron.** Eirlira kept the sweet smile
on her face. **Everyone knows that. Are we finished yet?** She nodded
as she listened. "No, I think I completely understand,
Weyrlingmaster."
"Alright then. I'll see you for some of our early practice sessions,
yes?" He slid a schedule of trainings and meetings to her. "The ones
marked with a star are required. The others are good for extra
training sessions. I strongly encourage all my candidates to attend as
many of the optional ones as possible." In his mind it was always a
good idea to get extra practice and be better prepared.
