A wedding! Lisadi was feeling rather mixed emotions at the moment. She
was _so_ very excited for the young bride-to-be, as well as to share
in the joyous and momentous occasion. Yet, she was also sad. Knowing
she may never have the wedding she had hoped would be coming for her.
She'd lost some of that chance when she'd left. Yes, it had been a
foolish choice, but one she'd made at the time, and now couldn't take
back.
Sighing, she donned her prettiest dress. It was green and had cost
quite a bit. Yet, money wasn't as much of an issue for her now that
she'd inherited her aunt's treasures. Wasn't that why she'd gone in
the first place? It was, but had the cost been too great?
Sarban had agreed to join her for the wedding. They were trying to
reconnect. She loved him and wanted more than anything for things to
work between them. Yet, as time wore on, she worried that the only way
she might be able to love him was to let him go. Things were not warm
like they had been before. She hoped with time it would change, but
she feared it might not.
With her hair pulled back and a beautiful silver clip holding the
curls she had created up, she smiled. "You look beautiful," she told
herself before turning and gathering the rest of what she'd need.
It wasn't long before she was ready and waiting for him in one of the
gathering spaces of the Hold. Many others around her were finely
dressed as well, all heading to the wedding event. Lisadi waited,
wishing it was _her_ time, but knowing it wasn't.
Sarban was in his usual finery, but his face, eyes, and hair all had that
windswept look that never left him for some reason. Approaching, he
saw Lisadi and paused. He wasn't used to seeing her in clothes of that
quality and it was different. She was different. A woman of means now.
Sighing, he kept walking, hoping this day would go well as he closed
the distance separating them.
"Hello, Sarban," she said, her voice a bit breathy as she approached.
"You look very handsome." She smiled. He really was dashing when he
was dressed in his finest. Yet, what she'd loved about him was what he
looked like when he _wasn't_. She loved the ordinary, everyday parts
of this man. And yes, she did love him. Her heart caught as that
thought overwhelmed her and her smile almost faltered as a feeling of
sadness that she might never get to share that love with him again
washed over her.
"I'm glad you offered for us to go together to the wedding," she told
him. **I really didn't want to go alone,** she thought silently to
herself, still wishing that _this_ could have been _her_ wedding. Only
time would tell if she would have such a future with Sarban.
"You look very nice yourself," he complimented as he offered his arm to
her. He wasn't the sort of man for all this formality but he wouldn't embarrass
his cousin or the Hold. And it did feel better to have a woman to
escort and worry
about. It gave him something to set his mind on instead of the ceremony and all
the important guests.
"Thank you," she replied, taking his arm and walking with him. For
awhile it seemed as though a silence had settled between them. For the
first time since her return, however, the silence wasn't a bad thing.
It felt more comfortable and less awkward.
"I haven't been to a wedding in quite some time, and I don't think
I've ever been to one this formal," she remarked. Most of the weddings
she'd attended in her life had been small, family-oriented affairs,
not whole Hold weddings with lots of pomp and circumstance.
"Well just so you know, there will be Blood from Amber Hills and possibly
some other places coming. If you're not sure about how to address someone,
give me a pinch and I'll lead the introduction." Sarban didn't want
her to be uncomfortable at all.
She nodded, "Thank you. I've never really known what to say to people
of the Blood. Truthfully, I hardly _ever_ encountered any before I
came here." How her life had changed since she'd first left the little
cothold she'd spent most of her life in and come here. At times it was
hard for her to even realize it was all real and that it hadn't been
just a strange dream.
Somewhere, in the back of his mind, Sarban realized this was practice for her.
A steward's wife would have to attend and deal with the social aspects of life
in a major Hold. Lisadi was unfamiliar with it so this was a good test.
She was slightly nervous as they got closer to the celebration area.
She didn't want to do anything to embarrass Sarban, as she knew his
role was very important. Whispering in his ear she said, "Please tell
me if I do anything wrong. I don't want to embarrass either of us."

After the ceremony was over, it was time for the dancing. Sarban didn't
bother asking Lisadi if she wanted to dance, but he did take her around
and make introductions since he had to greet the folks staying in the Hold.
The ceremony had been beautiful. Lisadi was almost sorry when it
ended. Afterwards, she walked around with Sarban, greeting the people
whom he introduced her to. After a short time, she gently touched his
arm.
"I'm going to need to sit down for a bit," she whispered, not wanting
to interrupt his talks with one of the men. Her leg was starting to
hurt, and she just needed to take her weight off of it for awhile.
Nodding, he politely ended the conversation with one of the minor
holders before leading her to an empty seat and taking the one next to
her. "Do you want something to drink?" he prepared to flag down a drudge.
"That would be wonderful. Some wine or klah, whatever they have,"
Lisadi all but sighed with relief as she sat down. She stretched her
leg out like she'd be taught from the healers and started moving her
foot just slightly. They had told her in her new therapy that this
could help if her leg started to pain her. She'd actually done better
than she thought she would, and for that Lisadi was grateful.
It wasn't long before a glass of wine had been set in front of her. Being
with Sarban in his own Hold had its benefits. "If you need to go rest, that's
fine."
She thanked the person who brought her the wine and immediately took a sip.
"Oh, I'd much rather not. This is such a wonderful occasion to
celebrate. I don't want to miss a moment." She rubbed her thigh some
to try and ease the muscle ache she felt. "This is just the most I've
walked around and stood like this since I can remember. My therapy
sessions are definitely helping, else I don't think I'd have even made
it this long."
"What do you do in those sessions anyway?" he asked curiously.
"Well, Zefred, he's the healer I've been working with," she explained,
"will massage the muscles around my leg to try and loosen them up.
Then he has me stand up and do a bunch of different movements.
Sometimes I flex my foot, other times I lift me leg in different ways.
He says it will help my muscles grow back stronger and once they are
stronger I will have less and less pain and hopefully be able to do
the things I used to do much easier."
Sarban considered that. He had never seen such. Then again most injuries that
seacrafters endured meant amputation, not healing a limb. If the healer said it
was good for her, then maybe it was. "But it'll never be the same?"
She sighed wistfully. "I'd like to believe it will, but I don't know
if I can. I'm honestly feeling so much better even now then when I
first returned, that I'd be satisfied with just this improvement.
Zefred says it _will_ get better, but he couldn't promise it would be
the same as it was before. I just have to keep working on it." She
wondered if her injury in some way would put Sarban off from
considering marriage to her in the future.
"Yeah I suppose so. Keep trying." Just like he was working on this.
Sometimes he questioned if the effort was worth it-if she would just
leave again. "What do you think of our new minor holder and his wife
then?"
"They make a lovely couple. It's nice to see people settle down and
begin a life together," Lisadi smiled wistfully at the thought. **I
want my own life to _really_ begin now. I wonder what's in store for
me this coming Turn?**
