Location: Garnet Valley Hold
Date: month 9, day 6 of Turn 3

Alrog was wandering among the quests a wine glass in hand. After he had been introduced to the new regent, he had managed to shook off his mother and sisters. They were just looking for suitable suitor for the eldest one and that didn't interrest Alrog at all. He rather felt pity for all young, unmarried men at the party. His mother could be rather...agressive, and poor Alffie was so shy she couldn't get a word out of her mouth.

"Your mother is determined," Penryn said with a bemused shake of his head. He gave the young Holder of Iron Lake Hold a knowing smile. "Oh, yes," Alrog sighed and rolled his eyes. He's been target of his mother's match-making attempts enough times to know how it felt. "You're síngle too, a widower. So, you should stay away from her too." "Too late," Penryn said with a roll of his eyes. "It seems that now that I am Steward I am suddenly an eligable match for just about any single young woman in the room."

"Try being young holder with prosperous mining hold," Alrog muttered. "But I don't want just any pretty, young woman. I'm picky." His eyes shifted through the growd and stopped on certain young woman. The young holder has been nurturing a secret crush for her since he first met her. "As you should be," the steward nodded. "I think any man should be choosey about the woman they decide to spend the rest of their life with." If they were so lucky.

"Not to mention the woman should also agree to it. I don't believe in forced marriages. Maybe because my parents were so happy together," Alrog said. He was totally unaware of the history his parents had behind they happy marriage. Yes, Rogin had made Alfida happy, but only after she had gotten over her bitterness of not being able to snare Aswic into marriage with her. She had always been ambitious. Rogin had been the second best choice. "Do you have any prospects yet?" Penryn asked curiously.

The young man shook his head. "I'm just keeping my eyes open. Frankly, Iron Lake's kept me so busy I really haven't had the time to look around." "I can imagine," the steward nodded. After all, he had been running Garnet Valley Hold until Lord Ishek came. It gave him a new appreciation for what the Holder had been up against. "I hear your mines are producing well."

"Well, the iron production is bit erractic. The main vein is running out and although we keep finding small pockets of iron, we need to find a new major one. But the gem mine's been producing well, even if we had to close it down for the winter. The mountain passages got plocked with snow and we couldn't support it anymore. But soon as the spring floods are over we open it again" the young holder's animated voice told that this was his favourite subject. "You're doing well for yourself, Alrog," the older man grinned. Though he was now Holder, there was a time when he had been fostered out and placed under the tutilage of Auren, the previous steward of Garnet Valley Hold. Penryn was not even assistant steward then, and Jaika had been alive. They would often invite the fosterling over to their cot for dinner and a chat. He was pleased to see the kind of man the boy had grown into.

"Yes, I think I do," he shrugged bit self-conciously. "I can't complain." "Have you met Lord Ishek yet?" Penryn asked as he set his wineglass on a tray passing by.

"We were introducted, in passing. But there were other people in line to do the same so it was just the handshake and nice to meet you's." "I suppose that's to be expected with this crush of people." Penryn hadn't seen that many people since Aswic and Thalia's wedding. "You met Lady Thalia before, didn't you?"

"Of course, several times," Alrog laughed. "Aswic was a my family's old friend. We were at their wedding, and in the funeral," his voice took more sobre, sad tone. Lord Aswic had been like an uncle to him. "They were both at my sister's engagement party." "That seems like so long ago." So much had happened since then.

"Yes, a life time ago." Alrog drained his glass with one take. "Well, here is to the happy and healthy lifetime to come," Penryn said before draining his own glass.
