Description: Yriadha asks a favor of her friend
Location: Sunstone Seahold
Date: month 2, day 4 of Turn 7
It was a night like any other and Sophque brought her small box of
sewing materials and turned the light shade to the angle she preferred
for her work. She'd sorted the stack into the fine garments and the
not so fine and began work on the former first.
Her fingers flew with delicate stitches that made the rip in the seam
disappear. The small pile of repaired and folded garments stacked up
next to her until the basket was almost empty when a scratch came at
the door.
"Come in," she called pleasantly.
The door opened slowly and Yriadha stepped in, her hands clasped at
her front lightly. "Good evening, Sophque. I thought I might sit a
visit with you before I return home."
"Good evening," she returned the headwoman's greeting with a happy
smile. "I made some tea earlier," she nodded toward a small table.
"It's probably a little cool by now though." She looked forward to
these early evening chats as the night shift got long and lonely most
of the time.
Yriadha poured herself a small cup. "I don't mind." The set of her
shoulders relaxed a little as she eased into a more relaxed frame of
mind. She sat in a small chair and took a deep breath. "Are you doing
well?"
"I am," she smiled. "There wasn't all that much mending this evening
and I'm close to finishing those baby blankets you wanted for some of
the poorer cotholders." She looked up from her work with a pleasant
smile for the Headwoman. "How's Humari doing?"
"That's good to know." Yriadha took a sip and flexed her shoulders and
neck from side to side. "Humari is...growing up." Her lips tightened
and she sighed. "She is much like myself at her age. My mother was
correct when she said I would understand her some day." She looked at
Sophique and for a moment, tilted her head. "And you? How are you
doing?"
Sophque chuckled as her mother had said much the same. She'd never
thought that she was all that much of a trial to her parents but when
she'd been growing up but she did have a rather strong will and pretty
much got what she wanted in one way or another. But now of course
that will was also tempered with a strong dose of reality. She didn't
even reach for anything she couldn't have. "My mother told me that
too," she smiled. "I'm doing very well. This new light is perfect,"
she said touching the stand nearby her. "Thank you."
"You're welcome." Her lower lip pursed. "I had a question for you. I
know you are busy much of the time, but speaking of my daughter, I
thought you might be able to assist me in a matter."
"Yes, of course," Sophque smiled. Though she was mildly curious what
she could possibly do the Headwoman couldn't.
Yriadha put down her tea. "I'm afraid with all my duties, I've not
been able to spend a lot of time with my daughter. But, I've been
noticing some...odd things about her." Her brow knit. "Most girls her
age are eyeing young men, getting ready to prepare for marriage. She
is not; she is withdrawing and her attitude is...well..it leaves much
to be desired. She won't even discuss the matter. Perhaps it's because
I am her mother and I've had to be strict." She looked up at Sophque.
"But you've known her for a long time. Could you, perhaps, speak to
her and find out what might be troubling her?"
"I'd be happy to try and see what I can find out if you think she'll
talk to me." She smiled with a thought. "Maybe I can have her come
over to watch Sophine some night. Tell her my mother is taken sick or
something."
There was a look of relief on Yriadha's face. "Thank you. When can she
come?" It was obvious that Yriadha was concerned, but there was also a
surprising look of frustration on her usual calm face.
"How about just after restday?" Sophque could see both the frustration
and relief and smiled at the other woman.
Yriadha nodded. "That would be wonderful, yes. Thank you." She gave a
sigh and finished her tea. "Sorry to push, I just worry."
"Oh you're not pushing. I'd feel the same way if it were Sophine.
Thankfully she's a little young for it yet."
"It comes far too quickly and before you're ready for it. But she's my
youngest. When I get her settled, I suppose I'll be a bit lost but
I'll have done my job as a mother."
"Aye, by then you'll have grand babes to play with, and you'll always
be the one your children run to Yriadha," Sophque smiled at the older
woman. She'd been watching the shadows and saw the small brown flit
with whirling eyes staring down at her from the top of a cabinet. She
pulled the lid off the small bowl at her side and picked up a tidbit
to coax him down. "Come on," she coaxed and the little flit floated
down to pluck the morsel from her palm.
"I'm going to have to go." She smiled at the Headwoman.
She glanced at the flit and then Yriadha's nodded, understanding. She
rose and put down her cup a warmer smile coming to her face for a
moment. "Thank you, Sophique. For the tea and for your help."
