After she had finally figured out what she wanted to do, Rhosyn got
down to the business of getting organized. After the meeting with the
headwoman and her wingsecond, that left one glaring problem to deal
with. And there was one person who came to mind of course. So
Gelira was told to come to the Weyrwoman's office for reasons which would
soon become pretty widespread knowledge.
She hadn't been summoned to meet with the Weyrwoman much in recent
sevendays, so Gelira was rather curious when she received the message. As
soon as she could, she made her way to Rhosyn's office where she
knocked and waited for entrance.
"Come in please," she stated quickly, shifting in her seat. She didn't get
up though. No, by now it was sort of obvious.
Gelira did as she was asked. "I was told you wanted to see me," she
said as she took a seat herself. She was still not certain why she was
here. She didn't think it was anything bad, but still she felt
slightly nervous as she waited.
"I did." She bit her lip, then looked back at Gelira. "Remember last time
when I needed help? Well this is another of those times only this time it's
for a different reason." Rhosyn let out a lusty sigh, thinking this was getting to
be a bit ridiculous.
Gelira tilted her head slightly, looking the Weyrwoman over. She
_seemed_ to be in good health.
"Of course, Rhosyn," she replied, recalling that she preferred to be
addressed by name, even though at times it still felt too informal.
"You know I will help in anyway I can. How can I be of service to you
now? I hope you've not re-injured yourself?"
"Ah no. It's more like I'm pregnant and soon I won't be able to do all of
that stuff without help." There-it was out there. Now she couldn't take it
back.
"You're pregnant?" Gelira replied, her voice rising slightly, her eyes
opening wide. "Oh, well, that's wonderful news." **I hope at least,**
Gelira knew that not everyone was pleased by such news. In her eyes,
however, a child was always a joy and Gelira herself wished in the
deepest part of her being that she could experience that someday as
well.
Rhosyn sighed. "Not so loud-the whole Weyr doesn't know yet." Rolling
her eyes just a bit, she got back to the subject at hand. "Anyhow I plan to
complete my duties for as long as I can but obviously I won't always be able
to crawl around on Orlaith to do what needs doing. Her bathing and oiling
will be handled at times by some of the candidates, but I may need other help too
from what everyone says." She shrugged, not understanding just how physically
limited she was going to get.
Gelira listened and nodded. "Okay. That shouldn't be a problem. I will
speak with father and let him know that you need my help again. He was
very understanding before and relaxed quite a bit of my craft duties.
If you could let the Headwoman and Weyrlingmaster know, so they don't
think I'm shirking my candidate duties." Gelira paused, a slight shadow of sadness
passing over her face. "Now that the Hatching is over, our duties for both of
them have lightened considerably, so I know it won't be a problem." Gelira
was curious what all Rhosyn would need help with, but that didn't matter. She
had actually enjoyed, for the most part, helping her before, and she would
never turn down a request from her Weyrwoman.
"The headwoman already knows. I wanted to make sure that you were okay with
it before I broached the subject with the Weyrlingmaster." Rhosyn didn't want to
assume really. After all Gelira might be sick of her after all that.
Gelira gave a nod and replied, "I'm fine with it. I will be more than
happy to help." Truth be told, she'd been feeling as though her own
craft studies were at a stall since she hadn't Impressed, so working
with Rhosyn would give her something else to do with her time.
"Very well. You'll probably check in with the headwoman to see about your
candidate duties first everyday, then with your father-then you'll come to me.
At first I'll be able to do things but as time goes by, I'll probably need more help."
Nodding to herself, she tried not to think about the loss of freedom.
Gelira nodded. "Understood. I will do whatever I can to assist you. Is
there anything you need right now?" She figured she'd start right away
if Rhosyn needed her. Otherwise she would go and let her dad know that
she'd be doing less duties for the upcoming months.
"Oh no, I'm fine-thanks. Just need to get everything in order." Indeed, Rhosyn
had a list. The Weyrwoman needed to attack something like this, to be prepared
as she faced it head-on. Rhosyn did not like being blindsided.
"Alright then, I'll check in with you tomorrow then," Gelira replied
and when she knew she'd been dismissed, headed off to find her father
and let him know.
