The wedding was more like a dream than anything else for Arippa. But
thankfully she hadn't tripped up in her vows and after a short private
moment. They came out of their moment of seclusion to find a crowd
awaiting.
Cheers of holders both Emerald Falls and Green Valley greeted them as
did a rain of flowers. Arippa clung to Reven's hand as they threaded
through the crowd of well wishers to the gather square.
>From his vantage point, Sarban watched the young couple come through
and inwardly wished them well. It would be one less minor hold to worry
about if things worked out and that would be a good thing. He found himself
holding Lisadi's hand as he watched, knowing that might have been him so
many months before.
Caenir was among those who cheered and lifted the glass of ale he'd
managed to procure. He saluted his friend, then took a long swig from
his mug. He didn't really know Arippa, and to be honest he thought
Reven should have gotten to know the girl better before marrying her,
but he truly hoped they would both be happy.
D'hol waited until Reven and Arippa approached and greeted them with a
polite incline of his head. "Congratulations to the both of you. Lady
Arippa, your friend Jeyme sends her regards. Unfortunately because her
dragon is so young, she could not be here today but asked me to give
this to you." He reached into his pocket, pulled the letter out and
handed to her.
Lisadi returned the squeeze she felt from Sarban as the new, happy
couple entered. She hoped, perhaps, she would have a wedding in her
own future. She wondered if a man like Sarban would also have such a
large wedding when he married. So different from what she was used to.
She looked towards him as he watched the couple enter. The set of his
jaw, the gleam in his eyes. Her heart belonged to this man. She loved
him. She'd known that almost from the time they'd met, yet she'd been
afraid. She loved him. That feeling radiated from deep down insider
her. She wanted him to be holding her hand and escorting her into
their own reception. The feeling washed over her so strongly that she
could do nothing be stare at Sarban for countless beats of time. She
hoped he could find a way to love her again.
Sitting near the front Royan and Faldrimme stood and cheered as Arippa
entered with Reven. Married. Royan smiled. He knew his daughter would
be treated well. He was happy that her life was finally taking it's
own path. He glanced to his other daughter and noticed a hint of
sadness in her eyes. There was something Faldrimme was holding onto
that he couldn't quite place. He'd felt it for some time, but Royan
had never been one to push his daughters to share. He sometimes hardly
knew what to do when they actually _did_ share their feelings with
him. Turning his attentions back to his daughter, he watched as a
happy father should.
Faldrimme, on the other hand, was full of a myriad of emotions. She
was happy, she was sad, she was worried, she was anxious, she was
lonely. She could hardly control one emotion before another seemed to
tumble over her like waves in the ocean. She _was_ happy for her
sister, though she would miss her company greatly. It was her own
personal feelings about her own future that held such uncertainty for
her. She glanced back at her father, wondering what he would say about
her dream to be a beastcrafter. Perhaps she should take Uncle Zathris
up on his offer and go to the Weyr once all this was finally settled.
Her thoughts were interrupted when everyone looked towards Arippa and
Reven once again.
Reven was smiling at the Wingleader who had dropped off the letter
from Jeyme. He remembered the woman as having gone on a riding trip
with him, Westyr and Arippa. "I had heard that Jeyme Impressed, how is
she doing?" He asked D'hol.
Arippa looked up at the tall Wingleader "Oh thank you Wingleader," she
said and impulsively stretched up to kiss him on the cheek before
plucking the letter from his fingers as her cheeks pinked with
embarrassment at her impulsive action. "Please tell Jeyme I've missed
her and she must come visit when she's able." She fanned herself with
the letter for a moment before handing it to her sister. She didn't
have any place to put it in her dress and she knew Faldrimme would get
it to her room so she could relax and read it later.
Faldrimme accepted the letter from her sister. She was curious about
it and the people Arippa had gotten to know at Emerald Falls, but she
would never pry. It was, however, another reminder that she was losing
parts of her sister. They would always have each other, true, but
things could never be the same now.
D'hol stiffened a bit at the sudden display of affection but hid it
well enough behind a polite smile and an inclined nod. "You are
welcome. Jeyme is doing quite well. She and her green are quite the
pair. I will pass your message along when I see her. Congratulations
to you both." He gave a nod to all three and stepped away, wanting
nothing more than to go back to the Weyr and away from the
festivities.
Arippa was oblivious to the Wingleader's discomfort and had moved on to
the next guest. Then finally they were through to the dance floor and
the music began to swell. She turned and held her arms out so Reven
could sweep her into their first dance as husband and wife.
