Riveenata enjoyed catching up with her friends. She hadn't spent much time
with Nytha lately, so she'd swiped a few pastries as a present and waited in
a quiet corner of the dining caverns until she spotted the greenrider to
wave over. "Hey, Nytha! I got some pastries, including one of those
fruit-filled things."
"Those ones with the sweet crust?" asked Nytha.
"Exactly. Want it?" She grinned at the other woman. "How've you been doing?"
"Oh I can make room for it," the greenrider found a seat, and grinned at the
healer. "I was man watching while bathing Tagrerth, and I spotted that new
transfer and his brown from Far Island."
"Ooh! Is he cute?" The other woman waggled her eyebrows in a deliberately
over-the-top manner. "Did you say hi? What's his name?"
"V'tek of Lonisth, Tagrerth was nosy and asked his name, so I sort of waved
at him. Would you believe me if I said he actually blushed!" Nytha grinned.
"I only waved in his direction. But when he comes in for a physical, well
believe me you'll notice, he's got lovely blue eyes.
She giggled. "Sounds a little shy. I bet he thought you were lovely. And oh,
I will have to check him out." New blood was always interesting to run into.
"I hope he sticks around for a bit."
"Well if nothing else, you need to see his behind, he only had shorts on,and
when they were wet... well you couldn't help but notice a very nice butt."
"Ooh, so he's one of thoooooooose. I see. Clearly I should make sure I'm on
duty when he comes in to fulfill his inspection requirement."
She grabbed a pastry for herself and bit into it. "Have you been interested
in anyone besides cute butt brown rider lately?"
"There was that bluerider who won my last flight. but he went off and
weyrmated." Nytha pulled a face. "Shame really, he's wasted on another man."
"Aww. I know the feeling. I think I spent my whole teens having crushes on
exclusively weyrmated blueriders." She laughed remembering her younger self.
"Still, there are plenty more riders out there."
"That there are. Bronzeriders are nice, if a bit full of themselves
sometimes. Truth be told though, I have an eye on this Woodcrafter who came
in a few months ago. Light brown hair, long fingers - I want to see what he
does with them."
"I bet you do," Nytha teased. "Can't you get him to come in and fix
something in the infirmary while you're on shift?"
"I really should! And then hope nobody else checks him out and says anything
before I can. I should totally move on that."
"Maybe you could offer him a massage afterwards?"
She laughed. "If that doesn't work, I'll have to be very disappointed in
myself." She ate one of the other pastries. "How's life in your wing?"
"Same old, same old," the greenrider replied. "We drill, we fly fall, then
we party."
"Parties are always good. I've been a homebody for a couple months. Oh, but
I did go to that dragon poker party that a couple Candidates threw. They're
so energetic."
"Have they figured out strip dragonpoker yet?" Nytha grinned, "There are one
or two riders that I'd not mind strip poker with."
She tried to be compassionate and a sympathetic shoulder to the people who
needed to learn to adjust to Weyr morals, because she knew they would be
foreign and scary. But she had to admit that mentally she was convinced the
Weyr was better.
"The weyrbred ones are pretty good at it. The ones who are crafters or
holders are a little more shy, but there was this one holder boy who got
really into it. I have a suspicion he might wind up on blue."
"Not that there is anything wrong with a bluerider, especially in a flight"
Nytha grinned. Although she took care to make sure that her brother knew
when Tagrerth was ready to rise, to avoid any unpleasantness.
Riveenata nodded. "I'll let you know the next time an impromptu party
happens. It'd be nice to see some more mature faces there."
"That would be good." Nytha grinned. "Now are there any more of those
pastries left?"
"There are indeed," the healer answered as she slid the plate back over.
